Since they tend to lock the building down, I doubt it.  It would be difficult since it is on a hill, but it would be terrific if City Center could turn the foodcourt around (open the sides of that floor) to face the street so that the inside doors could be locked, and outside business could take place at any hour.  There is just terrible exposure to downtowners and convention goers.

walnut tower is getting a makeover, thanks to the recovery act!

hard to tell, but the new windows are on the top two floors (black frames instead of aluminum). they are also replacing the individual HVAC units.

I happen to have a 24 hr view of the Abdiana building at 20th and Grand, from both my home and work. Lately, I've noticed that the sign on the top of the building has been coming on randomly, and even staying on for a while at night. It's a great looking sign, especially next to the Western Auto building. Anyone know what's happening there? It would be cool if there was something happening and the building was being renovated.

Man Walnut tower is so ugly. I hate to even think about what it must have replaced. Some beautiful 1880s building I'm sure.

Abdiana should be lofts. What a beautiful building and amazing location.

Actually, that corner where Walnut Tower is now had one and two-story non-descript commercial buildings along it.

Further north on the block, there was sort of a neat-looking old saloon building just south of the Grand Opera House.

I wish Nick Abnos would sell that building to some loft developer. He hasn't really done anything with that building for years.

Anyone know what's going in at 308 Broadway? This is under the Broadway Bridge on the west side, across from Atlas Cab. A fairly nondescript 1-story building was torn down and the lot is currently being prepped for construction. Kiva only mentions that a new building has been approved and mentions "20,160 square feet of office and light industrial uses."

The building that was torn down is the white one in the center here: http://g.co/maps/hhvya

Lee Mathews Equipment is building a new shop/warehouse building. They purchased the old Cheep Antiques building and have moved their offices in there.

Unfortunately, the old stables building that they own, further west on 4th, will also come down in this development. It was a pretty crappy building when it was built in 1875 +/-, but I'll miss the "stables" and "horseshoe" signage.

Just noticed the Sieden's Fur Building has paper up over the windows. Just last week, you could still see the dead plants in the windows. Anybody know if something is going on with this building?

I've noticed large dumpsters and construction equipment in front of the "Hotel Monroe," just south of Michael Smith. 19th St.

Anybody know what's going on there?

It's actually for the building directly next door, 1908 Main. That's the building that belonged to Pendergast during his glory days when he ran the "Jackson County Democratic Club".

It's now owned by Wit Solberg, and he's renovating it for his company's offices upstairs, Mission Peak Capital. Still no firm word on what will be on the first floor. Most recently is was a satellite office for the KC Arts Institute.

Noticed today that Walnut Tower apartments are showing up on Boveri/Craigslist.

I take it this building no longer has income restrictions after the remodel? Still ugly as sin, but looking a whole lot better.

Noticed 601 Walnut is going to auction. Thoughts? More UMB parking?

Didn't know where else to put this. Does anybody know what's going on in the former Snack Shop on the corner of 11th and Grand? It's all cleaned up, painted, looks like a small bar, pool tables, etc.

The former Covenant Baptist Church at E. 9th and Harrison has been reborn as The Arts Asylum.

According to the gentleman at Slabotsky & Sons--which also up until recently leased space in the Bryant Building--the owners are turning it into a "tech hotel" (his words) to capitalize on the Google Fiber network and were renovating that space into a lounge area for the new tenants. His former space at 1102 Grand is being gutted and utilized for generators. It's a shame to lose street-level retail for a non-public use like that. Slabotsky & Sons moved just down the street to a space on the ground floor of the Wall Street Tower garage.

Old Townley Lofts at 200 Walnut Street is getting a remodel of it's currently unused 1st floor. The 2nd through 5th floor are all 1br and 2br loft apartment rentals through KCLoftSpace

It will include a new fitness room & a community room that will be available for tenants of Old Townley and Richards Conover. The fitness & community room will be located on the south side, closest to the entrance and elevators. They are converting some of the remaining space on the 1st floor for 10 new "loft" apartments - three 2-bedrooms and 7 1-bedrooms.

More info can be found on this Kansas City building permit:

This is a photo from the north side on 2nd street across from River Market Event Place

This space used to be used for commercial offices, most recently "Market Directions." This is a photo of the door on the East side on Walnut:

710 Central is for sale for $7 million. DST is the present owner. Since the Lyric Theater is also for sale, and DST owns it, is DST unloading properties?

This might be a good permanent location for the downtown school.

804-808 Broadway is for sale for $899,000. The owner is WALTEL PROPERTIES LLC out of Greeley Colorado. Some may know it as the Raden Co. building.

The structure used to be known as the the Burlington Overall Company (of Burlington, Iowa), where they manufactured overalls. It was built in 1909.
