Wasn't that parcel mentioned on here to become River Market West Phase 3?

Yes. The Environmental Assessment for Broadway Bridge lists it as a super fund site but I can not find any supporting documentation elsewhere. As a former lead smelting facility, it likely has contaminents regardless of super fund listing.

No More Daily Nada
Our Daily Nada, the River Market bookstore and café inspired by a Hemingway short story, has closed its doors after operating less than two years.

The commercial creation of a pair of attorneys, Andrea Back and Amy Covitz, sparked a lot of enthusiasm, but failed to generate enough business to make the space at 304 Delaware work for them.
...
She said there may be a future Nada, but how that might work and where it might be is still too early to tell. A closing sign on the business door urged patrons to follow its progress on Facebook.

Maybe they would do better in a space on Troost.

I think they'd have done better if they sold some books or had more competent staff. I tried several times to find new releases and couldn't and typically the bar service was painfully slow despite an anemic crowd. I was very excited for this place when it opened, but it just never found its footing.

It also didn't help that there were 2 bookstore/cafe type places within a mile of eachother. Afterword Tavern & Shelves - I was confused when these were announced because they basically opened around the same time

Good point. It's interesting to me too because my casual observation suggests Afterword is thriving. Afterword always seemed to lead with bar/cafe with the addition of some books. I felt like Our Daily Nada intended to be a bookstore with a cafe, but instead didn't execute well on either and just disappointed every time I visited.

I would still love a Rainy Day annex down here.

An ordinance has been filed by Councilman Bunch to transfer the west parking lot of City Market from KCMO to PortKC. Word on the street is a development is being proposed by Flaherty + Collins (who developed Union on the riverfront and The Yards in West Bottoms).

It is on the upcoming NPD committee docket, but will be held for further revisions.

Is this the site on the northwest corner of 5th and Main?

Yes, the parking lot with the dumpsters in the back corner.

Hopefully this is a good project. Flaherty and Collins seems to have a record of getting things done. Hope it happens.

Not in your area though.....

I wish they would bring a condo version of this to KC.

It's a good building design. Surely it will be better in real life than a cheap rendering.

Looks pretty good, corner restaurant with outdoor seating. Can't ask for more for a small spot (and no garage?). Great infill.

Might work well as coworking space (like WeWork) and would do one floor as dorm like living space, sort of like a hostel for coworking spaces, which is now a trend.

Parking is below ground. You can see the entrance on the right side towards the back.
