Memorial before modifications that included the new entrance.

I love the renovations, but, the old approach from the south was much more appealing.

I threw together a massing model of the memorial and placed it at the elevation noted on the plans I shared earlier, and then created my own take on the north lawn. The current stairs, if continued down uninterrupted, wouldn't even come close to reaching Pershing. Instead of breaking it up with landings to space it all out, I decided to keep it a single long flight of stairs. This opens up a stretch of space at the bottom which could feature a long, National Mall-esque reflecting pool

I'm going to keep messing with it, but I just wanted to throw this idea out there now

Why not just have an entry directly into the museum from the north at a lower grade? Expand the museum to the area directly to the north of the memorial.

That could still happen in my design. I didn't include anything like that because I couldn't find any info on how deep the museum complex goes, and also I only just started playing around with it. It's very possible that it can't be built under

I don't. There is more in D.C. than can be visited in 2 months. The Smithsonian has 98% of their inventory in storage. Think the very end of the first Indiana Jones movie. This Country is vast. We need more of our history spread out, not contained. The basically hands on items which could be shared by our youth is being wasted now. The Cosmosphere museum in Hutchinson, KS. is awesome, we desperately need more of these located throughout the U.S. What if we spent the donated money to further our W.W.I Memorial. LastGentleman's reflecting pool would look fantastic on that huge front lawn.

Looks like the new drainage on the east side is working. There are small ice waterfalls at the built in drain holes on the side of the hill. The sidewalk appears ice free.

The one in DC will only be a memorial. No museum component

As a memorial, I find it a little underwhelming, but maybe they're still working on it. And I think I'd be intimidated by the stairs if I were elderly or mobility issues. Anyway, the museum and memorial in KC are both top notch.

Can't imagine anyone is going to cancel a trip to KC because they'll be getting their WWI fix in DC instead.

Regardless, I hope their memorial is better put together than their website.

The restored/improved walkway just above the new Main St faux rock outcropping retaining wall makes a pleasant bike/pedestrian alternative to the street below traveling between U Station and Union Hill. There is guardrail between the pavement and the void, along with some interesting perspectives of the urban landscape.

A woman fell off the north wall below the deck of the LM and survived. Lucky there is grass below.

Sad to hear. Was it someone taking photos?

It is conjecture that photo taking was the reason she was atop the wall.

Not making a statement. Just asking a question. It’s pretty common to see people on the wall posing.

Do you mean that the current theory is photo taking?

It happened yesterday. The TV 5 coverage did not come flat out and say it was photo taking caused but inferred it by mostly talking about photo takers. All people photos here with skyline will have a stone wall at the bottom. Only way to get just skyline and person is to stand on top.
