The south reflecting pool is working! North fountains are still dry, but it's a start.

Is it just a renovation or are they changing/improving it? It's nice to see this place keeping up with maintenance etc. This is probably the best national attraction in KC (maybe tied with the Nelson). Does it have a funding source from the city or is it totally self funded?

I was walking up the stairs on the north side of the lawn with some family from out of town showing the city off, and noticed some massive chunks missing out of the walls heading up the stairs, and a fair bit of trash was laying about in the planter beds. I did my best to grab some of the bigger pieces of trash, but have these problems been addressed? Or is this mostly due to construction currently ongoing at the plaza of the memorial? Does anyone know if they have plans to fix the walls after they complete the plaza work?

30,000 reported in attendance at the first annual Memorial Day balloon glow. Hopefully the concert returns next year.

The views were actually better from further away, not close up

Checked out the Balloon Glow Sunday night, thought it was a great event and made for a memorable holiday evening. Also looking forward to the Dan Carlin-narrated VR experience at the museum this summer, War Remains.

As noted by other posters, the south fountain was functional and looked great (as did Bloch fountain at US), but north fountains are still off - would love to see them return to service soon along with the stairway and other improvements around the memorial.

Liberty Memorial is a jewel. Fantastic museum, events amd views/vibe. Easily at the top of my list of spots my family visits regularly throughout the year in KCMO.

Was pleased the viewing deck was accessible during the renovation last weekend when we took out of town family for an evening viewing of dt.

Thanks for posting the pix above.

I'll give them a pass if they are actively working on it.

Good thing we got the iconic tower instead of this!! All those famous views would've been wiped out.

It would have been neat though if they had taken the unused one shown and put it at the other end of the Memorial Drive.

I've never seen the other designs. If the one from cashnetusa (?!?) was fourth place, what were the second and third place proposals?

Need a bi-state tax to renovate LM and Penn Valley, or get it set as a National Park. Arch was only made one like 5 years ago.

1000%. About a year I drew up some designs for it too in what I think greatly improved it. Would need some funding but not too much.

Construction starting on Liberty Memorial stairs and landings. They've been in disrepair for many years. Good to see.

Do you know if they'll be working on the north fountains as well? Or is it just stair repair work right now?

I don't know yet. They have all stairs closed off with chainlink fencing including the bottom section to the north where the fountains are. I thought at first it was just for ice on the stairs but rounded to the north side and jackhammers were active. Will keep watching to see what they do.
