Okay, everyone still alive out there? Let's see a show of hands.

I can't believe how much happened while the forum was down.

The Royals won the World Series, the Chiefs won back-to-back Super Bowls, Funkhouser's plan for light rail was the greatest thing to hit KC, and my great grand children just graduated from college.

It's great to see you guys again.  Those that have passed ways will be missed.

bahus, have you considered running the board under a vmware or xen image?  it would let you copy the entire board as an OS image and kick it back up if original crashes... handles the OS/software side, not the db of course.

The problems we've always had have been either database-related(which can only be mitigated with backups, which i do take), and server-related. My account is one of many on this server, and forum software is laughably unstable to begin with.

I think this forum's uptime is actually pretty impressive.

To run an OS image, I would need an entire colocated box and connection to myself, which would cost hundreds per month. So far, this site has generated about thirty dollars in ad revenue, over a period of about six years.

That was the longest 1 minute upgrade I've seen in a longtime. Guess it proves there is some kind of life without the KCRAG.
I got so much done yesterday, I have nothing left to do the rest of this week

I made this webpage to be the standard redirect, but this piece of shit forum software won't do any self-repairing(which took roughly 16 hours) if any files are not exactly as they're supposed to be.

It's hilarious but some enterprises still use software like this one and vBulletin to run their forums.... Seriously limits what you can do and like you said, stability issues are galore.  A lot of the clients I work with have been looking to JIVE for their next generation forums.

Did anyone else fear that they were going the way of MD and Chef? Guilty conscience I guess.  :D

We had another crash and I had to restore to the backup from the previous night. I've just about had it with SMF. I'm currently investigating other forum software.

Everything has been fine for years, or appeared to be. Are newer versions unstable?  What are you using for data store, MySQL?  Could it be that?

Check out Web Wiz Forums.  I think it might be Windows only though.

It's been unstable from the get-go. Usually the problems weren't big enough to cause outages though.

I expect a full refund, and 1 year of KC Rag for FREE!

Edit: While the forum was down, I got bored.  So, I made a twitter for KC Rag so we can use it when the forum is down. - For those of us who need our daily dose of the Rag.
