By your logic is it getting almost half the money in the city budget?
Just one example, there's hundreds of miles of missing sidewalks. t Te city hasn't built them in some places the streets existed before annexation. The Go Bond is replacing existing sidewalks and ignoring building new ones less than a block from a school, in some places directly across the street.

I’d doubt he’d have executed the PR correctly for it to say the very least, he seems a bit more of a divisive figure than Sly was.AlkaliAxel wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 8:05 pmI think I know the answer to this, but do you think that if Lucas was the mayor instead of Sly James we would have this new airport?Anthony_Hugo98 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 12:41 amThis right here, he’s had very little of note in his current term, mostly just riding Sky’s coat tails with an apparent shift in development attitude.AlkaliAxel wrote: ↑Tue Sep 07, 2021 11:08 pm At this point, it seems Mayor Lucas is holding most things back more than Northland is.

Being likeable goes a long way as a politician or city leader.
Many neighborhoods in Kansas City were built without sidewalks.

Kc needs to do way more on zoning in the northland, require sidewalks, and ban cul de sacs. They seriously need some kind of grid there are so many dead zones at the moment

I agree about the grid zoning, and I've harped about it for years on here.
Re: Poll shows support for NKC to secede from KC
Yeah I get people like the suburban style, but JoCo is mostly grid and would go a long way to increasing density in KCMO and making it easier to expand services

The current layout of streets in the northland makes it very difficult to ever expand transit there. One can only use some arterial streets and it's harder for transit to penetrate into neighborhoods. There are artificial barriers to pedestrians walking to distant bus stops. The other issue is police and fire dispatch. Winding streets with multiple cul-de-sacs slow down arrival times and present dead-ends. These types of neighborhoods also make it almost impossible for kids to walk to area schools, and thus they require busing or parents to drive them everywhere.

Sure, but 41% support is just a plurality and not a majority.

The lack of a grid is because our opinion of creeks changed as a society. We stopped burying them underground.FangKC wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 4:54 pm The current layout of streets in the northland makes it very difficult to ever expand transit there. Being forced to follow water quality standards, add conservation easements and all that means neighborhoods follow the topography instead of leveling it. There’s an older neighborhood off Flintlock in Liberty where you can tell they drew the outside edge next to a creek first since they couldn’t move that line. The neighborhood only makes sense off maximizing the lots that backed up to trees.
The neighborhood design density is a different topic but the lack of a grid didn’t define that determination

Interesting, as Clay County residents voted yes on the Zoo. Certainly can see where some may have more selfish desires but most amenities built up here can be accessed by all residents
Re: Poll shows support for NKC to secede from KC
The Northland did get the soccer fields, but half the Council members south of the river opposed it and then a group tried to get a petition started to stop it. So while yes it passed, it didn't feel supported when they very publicly opposed it so you end up created North/South animosity. The Northland has outgrown Johnson County 3 years in a row (not by much), but there's an expectation that the City continue to invest in the region where a lot of people are moving.AlkaliAxel wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 2:36 pm For God's sake, the Northland just got the biggest project in KC history with the airport. Got a question. When did NKC, which to many is for North Kansas City, become part of KC? Believe the topic heading should be "Poll shows support for KCN to secede from KC". Or should be Kansas City Northland.
