The only explanation is that he's paving some sort of run for statewide office in Missouri and he's trying to coalesce the whole state on his side. But it's really annoying how much our mayor promotes our biggest rival cities sports & endeavors.

My guess is that he runs for Senate, makes it a close race but loses in a red state and takes Cleavers spot when he retires.

It depends on who the GOP nominee is. He might be able to beat Greitens, but I doubt he would win otherwise. The comparison to Sharice Davids is not a reliable measure. it's easier to win a House seat in a mostly suburban district than a Senate seat.

There is no obvious winner for the Democrats. Jay Nixon might be the best bet. Sly James could probably beat Quinton Lucas in a Democratic primary if he'd run.

With Greitens being a likely GOP nominee, it's weird that there's not more of a rush of strong Dem candidates into the primary. So far it's still low-name ID candidates. Don't know why the Dems would blow a golden opportunity.

MO is a red state, there are no golden opportunities for Dems. They couldn't even hold a seat that was already theirs in the 2018 wave election in which they beat the GOP by 20 points nationwide across all Senate races. No big surprise that individual Dems aren't champing at the bit to make a blood sacrifice of themselves.

Missouri Senate Republicans just released the Missouri Congressional Map for the next decade. It's a beautiful compact district for KCMO finally.

It's poised to be a heavily Democrat district now with new boundaries, whilst STL house seats got more Republican and had to expand some because of population losses.

On this same note, I think Lucas leaves office early and runs for Congress in Mo-05 if Cleaver retires in 22 or 23.

This new map makes it almost a sure thing now since it’s a safe Dem district the next decade atleast now.

Michael Kelley of Bike Walk KC running for 5th District at Large (Ellington’s seat). Ellington is not registered for the election (yet). Kelley is pretty active on social media.

Crissy Dastrup running for 4th District vs Bunch it looks like. Reddit saying she was his aid before being fired. Anyone know more? I don't love bunch but nothing from her web pages makes her stand out.

Jess Blubaugh vs Justin Short to replace Katherine Shields. Blubaugh formerly of VisitKC and now KC Sports Commission. Short of KC Downtown Marriott Hotel. Short has a website and is active on social media. https://www.justinshortforkc.com Blubaugh doesn't have much of an online presence.

Chris Gahagan running for a 1st District seat. Head of Clay County Dems and a lawyer downtown. Very active on Twitter.

Joseph Thomas is running for Robinson's seat. 56% vs 44% in their 2019 match up. Joeseph is a small business owner (barbershop in 18th Vine).

I'm open to supporting Dastrup over Bunch if she's got the right ideas. Bunch has been hurting more than helping.

Probably politics. Northland councilpeople were burnt about the change of districts that basically put them all in the same district since none of them live close to DT. They don't want to run against each other.

There is no termed out in KCMO. You just have a one election pause. Politicians are always planning to stay politicians. I'm sure Shields is already planning to run again the next time after taking a term off. Glover probably still thinks he could be a councilman again. Alissia Canady will probably run again.

Dastrup has been retweeting KC Tenants bullshit all day on twitter, so I think she might even be worse than Bunch. Fuck.
