Bread
Re: Bread
I've liked bread from Great Harvest in the Corinth shopping area (Prairie Village I think). Found their website: http://www.bestbreadinkc.com/
Re: Bread
Habashi grocery in the River Market has a growing selection of middle-eastern bread styles, supplied by several bakeries in KC area.
The selection seems to be its best on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, but Saturday you must be early, or it could be sold out.

First time I was at Fervere, I found out the hard way that you need to get there ASAP, preferably right when it opens.
Besides pita bread, they also sell naan.loftguy wrote:Habashi grocery in the River Market has a growing selection of middle-eastern bread styles, supplied by several bakeries in KC area.
Re: Bread
We don't usually have an issue, but we also go around 9:30-10a.m. on Saturdays. You can call and reserve your bread ahead of time--which I think kind of sucks for the people who make the trek only to be disappointed. But, if you remember to call I suppose its a great policy!IraGlacialis wrote:First time I was at Fervere, I found out the hard way that you need to get there ASAP, preferably right when it opens.Besides pita bread, they also sell naan.loftguy wrote:Habashi grocery in the River Market has a growing selection of middle-eastern bread styles, supplied by several bakeries in KC area.

Re: Bread
The naan bread at Habashi is pretty good. Whenever we make BBQ sandwiches (burnt ends, pulled chicken or pork) we'll use warm naan as a wrap - so much better than a bun or plain bread. For a packaged not fresh bread, I'm surprised how decent the naan is from Costco when slightly warmed.
Hmm... I need to patent a BBQ wrap with warm naan bread. Edit: Naw, I'll open source it - go for it.
Edit 2: Also like warm naan for hummus as an alternative to pita. Give it a shot.
Edit 3: Why does this board track edit counts, kinda creepy.

Re: Bread
Concur on Fervere and LeMonde. I've seen fresh baked Italian bread in Boulevard Bakery on Independence Ave. (possibly Saturdays only).
In Johnson County there are at least 2 Farm-To-Market locations inside Hen House with their own brick ovens. Their bread is probably in top 3 in the Metro. Other locations have Farm To Market bread but it's not even close. Only stores with ovens are worth a special trip.

Re: Bread
Well the first time, it was just recommended to me and in the direction I was headed, but by then it was about 1 on a Saturday. So it makes sense that they'd be out of much of their stock. The ciabatta I got was still good though.smh wrote: We don't usually have an issue, but we also go around 9:30-10a.m. on Saturdays. So the second time, I pretty much prepared to go right when they opened and wasn't disappointed. Still even then, there was already considerable group milling about and waiting for the opening; don't really mind because it's part of the experience and a testament to their popularity.
I wonder: do they ever offer anything new or seasonal besides their usual selection?
Re: Bread
Good question. We go often, but not all the time, and typically get the Orchard bread or the olive bread. I haven't really paid attention whether there are new or rotating items...IraGlacialis wrote:Well the first time, it was just recommended to me and in the direction I was headed, but by then it was about 1 on a Saturday. Re: Bread
Bloom has great Hallah bread and my family LOVES the multi-grain bread. My daughter likes some of their other stuff too. I, personally, find it difficult to turn down a flakey croissant from anywhere and Bloom's does it as good as anyone.
Re: Bread
I had a friend gift a box of croissants from Bloom when it first opened.
Everyone in my office swore they were likely the best that they had ever had.
They then swore that they would never bring them into the office again.

On my blog I have an old Star article from the time when these ovens were originally built.
I've only been to the one in OP.
