KC is the 46th most peaceful city. Detroit is last. Missouri is one of the ten least peaceful states.

This is such bullcrap, Detroit is a now considered a separate Metro from Warren-Troy-Farmington Hills, MI which is 11th as most peaceful. It's like they wanted to make Detroit the least peaceful by breaking up the Metro. You can make stats lie about anything.

I'm sure missouri would be much higher if the peacefulness was based on Parks, Trails, etc that are considered peaceful

How car-centric is your city? Public transit ranked

KC is 20th out of 25 cities (ahead of Austin? Is Austin not big on transit?)

Well, it is in Texas, which is basically 200,000 square miles of sprawl and some farms.

Austin does not have that great of transit. It's basically college town + transit service. In fact the infrastructure in Austin is a yawn, and during SXSW was absolutely without a doubt pathetic. Being Austin, I'm sure that people will get over it and have a smoke and a swim, or whatever. The social capital, or whatever, is where it shines and that glow makes people think that it's more progressive (at least in public infrastructure investment) than it is. It's a totally weird dynamic.

What's wierd is that KC ranked behind Houston. Well, KC's public transportation isn't great by anybody's imagination but Houston's is just downright awful. Granted, it has an OK park and ride system for downtown (which is underutilized due to car drivers stalking the P&R parking lots for would-be companions so they can use the HOV lanes on the highway- no lie, that's absolutely true) and a short lightrail line that's equally underutilized but it's 100 times more car centric than Austin. It's as or more car centric than any city in the US.

Glad KC is high on the list but so much for the idea that hubs are expensive to fly into. Six of the first 7 cities are hubs (not sure about Washington). Newark is a United hub but NY in general is probably cheap because of the competition.
