Re: Kansas, Missouri battle over companies
It's definitely bizarre.
I'm sure it's frustrating for the star that a lot of the best KC reporting is coming from other places now. The athletic and plenty of specialized sites for sports, cityscene for development, and so on.
Collison is great though. Sad that McClatchy has ruined the star.

The dude is way too thin skinned for a reporter.

Vockrodt is a tool, but I don't think it's his personal bias he's attempting to confirm so much as the ever-dwindling number of suburban subscribers who keep inconveniently dying off.

The idea of reporters aggressively defending editorials makes me very, very uncomfortable.

Isn't the whole idea of an editorial board to have discussion too? Like I don't think Kevin was saying they were bad people, just that he thinks they're wrong.
Seems like going after his ethics is a low move.

Exactly. And ideally they would welcome the debate instead of bickering with people who disagree.

On a somewhat different theme, regarding the USDA move to KC, I suspect the federal union is guilty of a little hyperbole in this case. I once worked in the Denver office of a company that closed that office and consolidated in its Houston HQ. Practically everybody in the office initially made it known they would quit rather than move to Houston. In the end, the office closed and very few people actually quit - 90% moved to Houston. I suspect it is a bit different situation as so many more families are dual income and it's always difficult to re-establish work for the trailing spouse but I would almost bet the amount of attrition if this happens is significantly less than predicted.

Just seems weird to have an editorial/opinion side and then get annoyed when people have an opinion about their opinions...
Like isn't that the whole fucking point? Or are these supposed to be edicts from up high? Whatever... :/

In this case some in Congress and some in USDA think it's a political decision to move those USDA agencies so it could be a political decision to also stop the move.Highlander wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2019 12:36 am https://www.kansascity.com/news/politic ... 86842.html

More ammo against the USDA move to KC. It clearly will be disruptive in the short term. Already is with many who already quit...

This is exactly what they want to see. One goal right now of the president and cabinet is to reduce the size of the federal government.earthling wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 6:32 am More ammo against the USDA move to KC. They can have all these people quit, move the office to somewhere cheaper and just not fill every position again. And the ones they do can be at cheaper pay rates.

Maybe Kansas City Area Tourism board should send these workers some kind of video to show that the place is urban, has a lot of great restaurants and has a really low cost of living. Ah, who am i kidding, they would probably mess that up and show videos of Zone Rosa, Town Center, PrairieFire and Lenexa City Centerearthling wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 6:32 am More ammo against the USDA move to KC. Don’t you think some contemplating a move, especially people wanting urban neighborhoods, are already reading this board?brewcrew1000 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 8:33 am Maybe Kansas City Area Tourism board should send these workers some kind of video to show that the place is urban, has a lot of great restaurants and has a really low cost of living. It appears that Rau Construction is looking to move their headquarters from Overland Park to the West Bottoms at 1217 W 12th Street. They are seeking a tax abatement on building improvements. 36 Jobs averaging about $70k.

I believe the City/State could use an AIM to reduce the Federal Governments effective lease or parking expenses. Not sure how this works at places such as City Center Square where you already have many incentives in place.

Six buildings have been identified but no locations mentioned other than both sides of state line. Selection anticipated 'shortly after' July 7. Relocating Sept 30. So apparently no waiting for new construction.
KCADC reps heading to DC to help with relocation questions.. schools, housing, etc.
In this article, KCADC rep says they are 'just getting started' with efforts to attract more Fed agencies/jobs to KC given already a base of 35K Fed employees and about 100 agencies here...

https://www.dailyyonder.com/usda-agency ... /10/32779/The General Services Administration extended the deadline for proposals for the Agriculture Department to lease space in the Kansas City region. The space is supposed to house the new headquarters of the Economic Research Service and National Institute of Food and Agriculture. GSA’s new deadline for proposals is now August 7. USDA announced last month plans relocate employees outside of the Washington metropolitan area to Kansas City.. The original deadline was one month prior. The department wants to move employees by the end of September.
