Neat quotes from StL Mag

Hey all, I found these quotes related to the growth of the 'creative class' and gentrification in StL after flipping through StL Magazine and then visiting the website.  Some very interesting comments on the web site from some of the city's residents and backers.  StL and KC suffer many of the same ...

Re: NBA in KC - Where's the pressure?

what has happened recently with the Magic deal, if anyone knows?  PA, I would argue that KC could reasonably support a third professional franchise, but you'd find me at a loss to provide hard proof.  NBA here would be a regional draw, as the other nearest teams are, what, Memphis, Dallas, Denver an...

NBA in KC - Where's the pressure?

With all of this hoopla over the possible acquisition and move of the Penguins to the KC market, have we just lost track of the pursuit of an NBA franchise?  Where is the local group lobbying for the NBA, where is the NBA 'friend-in-a-high-place' a la Tim Lieweike (sp.?)?  We haven't heard a peep ab...

Re: Parking Issue Solved Downtown STL

I love StL, I think it's a wonderful city and I visit all the time.  Hell, I'm even dating a St. Louisan.  But to say that StL is in a 'different league' than KC is simply hilarious, are you kidding?  And I'll leave it at that...

Re: New pix: Busch III as of March 27, 2006

nice pics on the espn site!  I watched most of the opening day game (the cardinals unfortunately winning) and I have to say the excitement over the new park was palpable and exciting.  I may get ripped on for saying this, however: I know it's only one game, but I miss old Busch.  I miss the colise...

Re: Westside Neighborhood Part 2 (b/w)

mmm i love it! great pics of one of my very favorite KC neighborhoods.  Have you been involved with the other homes in that cul-de-sac, Burton?  They're such a wonderful surprise down there, these beautiful Modern homes perched atop the bluff...do you have any thoughts yet on what the design for you...

Re: Is Midtown Marketplace one of the city's greatest blunders?

yes, it's unfortunate, but it happened and is a done deal, and I'd imagine in some small way has contributed to the up-and-coming nature of Hyde Park and Midtown in general with Costco and especially Home Depot (for all those wonderful rehabbers out there  =D>).  With the option of bulldozing and st...

Re: Moving to KC in 2007

wow.  welcome to the forum, moving2kc, I apologize for the ranting and in particular 'kcdevin'.  There are times that I find myself a bit embarrased by the immaturity of some of the posts on here...just ignore 'em.  If high-quality suburban living is your thing, south JoCo will suit you extremely we...

Re: Developer proposes twin condo towers on Grand (Wellington Place)

sounds great!  However, I have a couple of concerns - first, we're not going to have to lose Anthony's for this are we?  Say what you will about it, I love that place, and leveling the bluff will at the least mean moving their little limestone shrine there...hopefully nothing else.  Second, I'm n...

Re: Omaha Skyline pics

what is the neat little apartment/condo development in the foreground of the first few pics?  This would make great urban housing in DT KC.

nice pics by the way, I really need to get up to Omaha and check it out.

Re: KC grand urban park, where are you?

I hate to say it, but I'll have to agree with Justin on this one.  I went to the dog park last sunday with the gf and had a great time...it's really a fantastic spot and PVP actually seemed alive and vibrant (mountain bikers, soccer players, and of course lots of affable peeps and pups).  However, t...

Re: Toasters in Westport

chef, I was referencing the size of the sandwhich.....haha.  Really just hideosly small, as I mentioned.  I'm always amazed that open Westport real estate doesn't fill up faster than it does.  Must be a rough trade Sun.-Thurs.

Re: Armour/Hyde Park Revival

The Hyde Park designations are simple enough, really - central Hyde Park is bounded roughly by Cleaver II south and Armour north, north Hyde park is north of Armour and I suppose east or west would be slight variations of that.  Old Hyde Park, Hyde Park, whatever, it's all the same rough area, just ...

Re: post your war stories of "kc scene" related hilarity. LOL!!!

well, I'll take this post to mean not only stories that could only happen IN KC, but also stories that only a KCian could truly love...for example my pee-ing on the St. Louis arch.   Shaming the arch was a lifelong goal that I finally was able to accomplish not long ago for the betterment of all k...

Re: Armour/Hyde Park Revival

I don't agree in any way that commercial activity necessarily dooms an area to litter, drunks, excessive through traffic, etc.  Rather, in many cases I would say it can invigorate urban neighborhoods when done correctly.  I started this post after spending some time wandering this area and comparing...

Greek Islands Lot

Anyone know what is supposed to be built on the former Greek Islands lot in Westport?  There is fencing up and the sign for an architectural firm (can't remember the name) but I haven't seen or heard anything else.  Have I just missed something?

Re: Toasters in Westport

Good riddance.  Not a bad sandwhich but absolutely, hilariously tiny.  Not to mention not much better or worse than anywhere else.  It'll be interesting to see what goes in here.

Hyde Park NIMBYism

Bahua, why do you feel that a zoning struggle would be so violent here?  I know Hyde Parkers have a very aggressive and close knit neighborhood association, and that they took pleasure in shooting down light rail :(, but I would think that positive economic improvements and added amenities, not to m...
