Re: St. Louis' MetroLink and Artwork

oh and i'll add that from my experience Metrolink has been clean and efficient, with a well planned line and some impressive stations.  There really needs to be a line serving south city, however, as it would seem to be very well-traveled and would be especially convenient for locals, as well as for...

Re: St. Louis' MetroLink and Artwork

This probably isn't the thread to discuss this, and may have already been brought up elsewhere, but what is the Metrolink's financial situation (i.e. what has it cost thus far, how was it funded, how heavily is it subsidized, from whom, etc.)?  Is it a financial drain on city, state or federal fin...

Re: THE RENOVATIONS

Depending on the details, I think that rendering on the Hunt website looks amazing.  It appears to be a great sleek modern design that works well with Kauffmans existing architecture.  No retro crap for our stadium, no sir (fingers crossed).  I still mourn the loss of the DT park opportunity, but if...

Re: Worst Shooting in US History (VT University)

^^^^ well, we could just get rid of guns.  Or at least make every effort to make obtaining one extremely difficult.  Until this happens, one can't be too surprised when these events pop up every now and then or another kid in a rough area catches a stray bullet or whatever.  Everyone has seen blam...

Re: How much for a trolley down 18th?

while I respect those that believe our historic streetcars should remain in the past, and certainly sympathize with the opinion, I'm all for their use if, as they mention in the Collison article, they could halve the time it takes to get us rail, and significantly reduce the cost.  I support them fo...

Re: MAC-Magazines and Coffee

I checked MAC out today, and really enjoyed it.  Good coffee, cool TWA-inspired atmosphere, plenty of magazines as well as my copy of the Star, and outdoor seating to boot!  I would like to see more seating space inside and, dare I say, an even better selection of magazines and papers (i.e. more of ...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway

wow, I just checked out the updates to the Gateway.  Man, that went from one of the more exciting developments going on to something that appears to be decidedly ho-hum.  What a loss for Mission and the inner-ring burbs  :(.  The plan reminds me a bit of Boulevard St. Louis in Brentwood, MO., which ...

Re: New Plaza Hotel/Retail?

What ever happened to the H&M that was supposedly going in at Village West (i'm sure I must have missed something)?  I think the former Mark Shale spot is ideal for an H&M on the Plaza, and I would love to see it, as well as other ultra-lux brands like Louis, Prada, etc.  The Plaza needs t...

Re: How much for a trolley down 18th?

First of all, I don't know what the additional cost of a trolley vs. a dedicated touristy type of bus is, and secondly trolleys are quite simply much, much more appealing, especially for tourists.  I could see folks staying at Crown Center etc. riding it for fun.  As Stockton mentioned, 18th and Vin...

Re: Why a Downtown Stadium Didn't Get Off The Ground

I find the new Twins stadium to be spectacular, and an example of the type of stadium design I never thought I would see:  a new -faux-retro DT ballpark that's...not faux-retro!  The architecture, for a baseball stadium, is MODERN and beautiful, different, and just plain cool.  And it sits on tran...

How much for a trolley down 18th?

As I biked east through the Crossroads, to Grinders, and then over to 18th and Vine and up Paseo today I found myself wondering how we have this wonderful potential tourist destination that, thus far, isn't.  Yet.  That issue can be debated somewhere else, but my basic question is, what might the ...

put it in the north loop.  and then educate people as to how powerful tornados are capable of the type of wanton destruction and land clearance that the monument is surrounded by :).

actually though, the north loop would be kiiiind of cool, hehe.

Re: Omaha: MO River, Amazing Sunset

Great pictures Omaha peoples...It amazes me that Omaha is building such a nice little riverfront area (they've even got some modern condos down there!) while KC still struggles to get ANYTHING done down near the water.  I'm not saying the steep bluffs don't hurt us, but they don't exist in Berkely...

Grinders Hungarian Mondays

Hey all, I just returned from a delightful evening which included a wonderful chunk of time spent at Grinders enjoying their beer selection (including Lunar Ale, my goal for the day) and stumbling across the amazing Hungarian George cooking up a storm.  If anyone gets a chance to swing by on a Mon...

Re: just how shady is midtown, esp. main and broadway?

The image and perception of midtown are quite a bit scarier than the place itself, in my opinion.  Is it a little rough, shady even?  Yeah, in parts.  But it's not nearly the cesspool that seems to be described in these last few pages, at least not to me.  I've walked between many, many a midtown di...

Re: downtown condo market (from P&L Condo thread)

actually, in regards to the Royals Express buses, I've been thinking that it would be great if the Royals and/or Chiefs would pony up enough cash to design and build an attention grabbing, large bus stop for TSC bound buses in or near the P&L.  You know, some team colors and graphics, fanciful l...

Re: downtown condo market (from P&L Condo thread)

I see your point Chriz, however I'll side with Pittpa on this one; we've gotta land a pro team downtown to fuel the DT residential boom to it's fullest extent.  It's not that folks are going to go to Preds/Kings/whatever game all that often, it's that many people, especially suburanites being lured ...

Re: Family visiting this weekend - 3 kids ages 6, 11 and 15.

Science City, Dead Sea Scrolls and a play at the Coterie Theater in Crown center, a great childrens/young adults theater.  T-Rex (fun place for kids of all ages)/Shopping at the Legends.  KC Zoo, weather permitting, and yes perhaps the WWI museum, the 11 and 15 year old will almost certainly like it.
