Re: North Plaza Hotel- 46th and Broadway

Even suburban locations of Alofts are more interesting architecturally than this.

Re: KCI Flight Schedule Adjustments

I wonder what kind of return on investment would result from KC offering something like Icelandair but where travelers to the US from Europe could take advantage of a one or two night layover before proceeding to another destination?

It seems like a dispensary on site would make a killing during this festival and during weekends throughout the year. Where's the nearest one in relation to this location?

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

I have to wonder about the funding mechanism if built in NKC. Does that mean JaxCo (pop. 700,000+) residents are off the hook, but Clay County (pop. 250,000+) would foot part of the bill? I'd hate to see downtown KC miss out on any real synergy for existing businesses and future neighborhood investm...

I wouldn't mind so much if they at least flipped the design so the shorter building is on the south and 30 floor building on the north...at least some stepping to mirror the P&L building.

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal

I suppose cabs probably are dead in KC for the most part which is too bad. But Uber sucks. At a minimum folks should advocate for a set fare from KCI to Downtown. The last two times I took a cab from the Westin to my home in Volker the drivers assumed I was from out of town and tried taking me the ...

The fountain heart still feels 70s-ish to me. Nothing about this version feels like it will catch on as a symbol of civic pride. Hell the heart shape with KC in it from Charlie Hustle even feels fresher than this.

Haven't seen it reported here yet, but Zocalo is closing. Manager says there is quite a bit of infrastructure work needing to be completed. In reality their food just pretty much sucks.

That graphic is pretty ridiculous if they claim the Rangers play far from downtown Dallas (or is it Fort Worth? And why not downtown Arlington?) but then they say the Angels location is less than five miles from downtown Anaheim. 'Downtown' Anaheim really isn't that different from 'downtown' Arlingt...

What's three more years? Anyone else worried the next stumble will be that the half built parking structure will need to be torn down and rebuilt due to exposure to the elements or some structural integrity issues?

I just saw a comment in a different thread about how Hallmark has been a huge impetus in keeping Crown Center going after all these years. Hallmark is huge on community impact, especially with Children's Mercy, Harvesters and some other charities, but it's unlikely that Hallmark would benefit too mu...

Four million for this?!? Shutting off a pretty significan E-W road and public transit route when there isn't any demand or need for a pedestrian mall? Are buses going to be rerouted to 19th? Nichols Rd on the Plaza, Pennsylvania in Westport or maybe a street in the City Market area served by the str...

Re: Crown Center: urban disaster, shining star, or in-between

I went to the top of the Westin several times just before it closed - it was a bar/lounge that featured a piano and vocalist. It was in pretty bad shape, but the views were amazing. How is it possible that the space couldn't make money (or at least be self-sustaining) solely on renting it out as wed...

Looks like it will be harder to get into the new Delta Sky Club when it opens. MCI part of eight new or renovated clubs in 2023 - 11,000 sq feet and two sky decks.

Re: New Development on 39th st?

FWIW the house directly across Roanoke to the west (the old ROCA/Simply Grooming spot) is for sale - would be nice to see another residential building to bookend that corner. I've heard the small Loretto parking lot on the SE corner is in play for development. Is the house between Meshuggah and the ...

With all of the residential development spilling out of the loop into surrounding areas, 40K shouldn't be too far away. But the finish line keeps moving as to what population level will bring increased amenities. I remember when 10K was the goal, then 20, 25, 30 and now it's even higher. I have no d...

Re: New Development on 39th st?

On another note, a lot of general W 39th Street talk get tossed over to the thread under KC Scene so it's good to have a general 39th Street thread more oriented to housing/development because I think we'll be seeing more of it in the next few years. Do you know what happened with that project that...
