Re: St. Louis' MetroLink and Artwork

yes, it seems to go w/ the territory.  Underground transit stations can't seem to escape that musky distinct smell and it does become part of the experience for better or worse.

I haven't been on Atlanta's system, but Chicago's El and NYC's subway are certainly not free of foul odors!

Re: St. Louis' MetroLink and Artwork

and KCOKEK-- what transit systems have bathrooms?  None I've seen and not many do I suspect.  I haven't ridden on the new cross-county extension, but I have never noticed any smells on any stations I've waited at on the original line, including some of the underground stations downtown.  If anything...

there is also a tunnel between the New England Nat'l Bank building (now 21 Ten Condos) and the Library Loft building that has the jewelry store.  The tunnel runs underneath Baltimore St. just south of 10th Street.  I saw the tunnel was accessible 2 years ago during the renovation of 21 Ten but now I...

Re: Your daily Omaha

For the record, Bohemia is part of the Czech Republic.  It's the large basinal area in the center which includes Prague.  I've travelled around it quite a bit and it includes one of the most picturesque cities in Europe (Cesky Krumlov).  Lonely Planet for the Czech Republic has several chapters on ...

(thanks staubio) Bohemian Cafe in Omaha's South 13th Street business district... cited among ten 'great family run restaurants' in Bon Appetite magazine. http://pictureomaha.com/gallery/districts/11/pic5.jpg This is something I am jealous of...  We don't have any Czech cuisine restaurants in KC tha...

is it sad when a little parking garage is more visually interesting than the massive tower it serves?

Re: Pre-demolition permit for Italian Gardens

I like the "completeness" feel this infill mass gives the block.  The metal panel cladding going up now is interesting.  That neon blue strip at the top of parapet is a little tacky, I think. (Neon lights feel very 80's to me -- think "Arcade" lobby of the pink Commerce Bank towe...

Am I crazy?  For some reason I think/thought a W Hotel was the hotel portion of the West Edge project.  Was this discussed on here beyond fantasy/daydreaming?

Has the streetfront retail aspect for this garage been removed?  I don't see how any retail could possibly fit on the street level.  The floor to floor height is too low for anything to be put in.  Anyone else noticed this or wants to go by and confirm??

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium News Conference

Weren't the Cleveland Indians consistently the worst team in baseball for ages?  Then they built Jacobs Field in downtown Cleveland.  It was a success, more people went to games, and now they are consistently towards the top of the division, battling it out w/ Chicago.  Maybe they had more money to ...

Re: OFFICIAL - Performing Arts Center construction

Yes, I'm not a fan of that garage.  I do like the corner staircases & the stretched/ semi-transparent images on the east & west facades, but overall, I think it looks lame.  The brickwork & precast elements just look unintresting compared to it's neighbors.  And those book shaped benches...
