Re: Why Can't the West Bottoms Be Redeveloped....?
Golden Ox apparently reopens this Friday (June 8). Amazing, I thought this idea was dead, as I hadn't heard anything for what seems like years. Best of luck to them, although I feel like their marketing could have been a little better. I don't know a ton, but from what I've heard through the grapev...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
There is a "last word syndrome" that happens on the forum that causes people to continuously repeat themselves because they feel if they don't get the last word in they somehow haven't gotten their point across. Totally agree about "last word syndrome." I've never had that probl...

This has probably already been covered, but just learning that Greitens studied ethics, philosophy, and public policy at Duke and was an adjunct professor of business ethics in the MBA program at the Olin School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis. Re: New Mizzou Endzone Project
Do people who donate to stadiums like this get a tax write off? It seems giving to a sports team shouldn’t get a break for donors. I could be wrong, but I think it depends on if you get a benefit from the donation. It used to be that these donations were 80% deductible if you receive priority seati...

Re: 13th and Grand tower
Is there vacancy at One KC Place? KCP&L's current digs are sufficient if they can add a few more floors, but I worry that a desire for more elbow room will inevitably result in a move to the burbs and/or a request for a tax deal. They would be a candidate for a single purpose building/campus in ...

Re: Poll/Guide: Get on the Bus with Your Phone - Try It Free
I'll only be excited about the scooters if there is a well-run program that picks them up frequently. It is easier to place the scooters neatly out of the way than bikes, but I have too little faith in humanity to assume people will care about that. Fortunately, they are easier to scoop up and reloc...

Re: KCI Flight Schedule Adjustments
Not that it isn't still the case, but I'd imagine most folks flying the return will be gone longer than just a few days. Would expect the return to have fewer sold seats in the early goings anyhow.

Re: Electric Park Neighborhood (East Bottoms)
It's got a similar problem to a lot of the stores in the City Market proper. The facilities are just hard to keep clean-looking and are outdated. The meat is not presented in an organized way, and there is a different layout every week. Everything about the place is haphazard, and even if it is grea...

Re: Electric Park Neighborhood (East Bottoms)
I'd love to see them in the City Market. They would do very very well there. Otherwise, I feel like they are susceptible to being forgotten or overtaken by some other concept if they don't plant themselves in a slightly better place. It is a tad different, but I feel like Broadway Butcher took a bit...

Re: Tom Colicchio-involved "Food Hall" to Mission Mall site?
If this is a unique highish-end food and wine venue that includes an entertainment element, I predict it will do very well. For the Mission Hills crowd, McGonigle's, Better Cheddar, and a few other places are spread out and on autopilot for decades. Plaza restaurants won't be hard to pull people awa...

Re: favorite under-the-radar mexican places in the kansas city area?
Not under the radar, but I think Port Fonda gets a bad rap sometimes. As far as a tequila/mezcal bar goes, it is easily the best in the city (that I know about). Yelpers and hipster haters love to slam it for being "hipster" or for tacos costing too much, but you can get a ridiculous entre...

Didn't someone try to plan a meetup at one point? I think someone got into a debate over if we should put our usernames on a nametag or real names and I decided the amount of alcohol I'd have to drink is unhealthy. This was like a decade ago though. Probably the closest to a recent meetup of anythi...

If you want your food like 5 minutes after you order, Los Tules has perfected the quick meal due to its proximity to the Performing Arts Center, and it is reliably consistent. I've always been partial to Taqueria Mexico for no terrific reason (I generally go to the older location, but the Kansas loc...

Re: Bike Lanes
Best part about that photo is the street is so wide, people treated it as two lanes and passed each other dangerously. If nothing else, it will increase neighborhood safety because of that.

Re: Bike Lanes
These look great where they are placed, but they stop in the middle of W. Pennway closing in on the Aguirre Center (presumably to allow for parking). The annoying part about Beardsley (the continuation of W. Pennway through to the River Market, is that the bike lane is a glass and trash filled secti...
