Re: Hamburger Mary's

I believe you are mistaken in this assessment.  Bankruptcy can relieve a bankrupt tenant from rental obligations, but I am not aware of an example determining that a tenants lease can be voided as result of property owner bankruptcy.  Actually I think it is possible for a tenant to get booted out w...

39th St - relocation for center for spiritual living and roca salon

The Center for Spiritual Living has finally moved into the old thrift store at 39th and Clark. Meanwhile, CSL's old space at 39th and Mercier is being renovated for Roca Salon, which is moving a block west from the big house at 39th and Roanoke.

Re: Carpooling dropping dramatically, particularly in KC

This article misses a big point - the disconnection between transportation and land use planning makes carpooling less practical every year.  As both residential and office development continue diffusing, the odds drop of finding someone who lives near you and works near your work.

Re: KC Area Development Council pushes for 15,000 new jobs

As part of that ambitious plan, the agency has expanded its turf even beyond the 18-county, bistate region that has Kansas City at its center to include the university towns home to Kansas State, Emporia State and the University of Missouri. The University of Kansas already was in the KCADC area. M...

Re: KCMO adopts "Complete Streets" resolution

The resolution itself is non-binding, but its value is that it synthesizes a lot of existing binding ordinances that have bits and pieces of Complete Streets.  For example, the new development code that we've discussed extensively here, as well as the upcoming rewrite of the Major Street Plan.  So t...

Re: MARC distributes $95 million for transportation projects

enough can correct me, but my understanding is that there was not any significant transfer of funds from roads to other modes.  The money was divided up according long-established regional formulas for the different modes.  Despite the new language in the long range transportation plan, there wasn't...

Re: Westport demolition

My wife and I are a part of this church. I'm not quite sure what to think about this news. I do know that this church is extremely city-centric, If the church cares about the needs of the city, they won't create a surface parking lot at one the city's most prominent intersections.  If the buildings...

Re: Dumped TimeWarner cable modem for Clearwire wireless internet

In California you always want a home phone because when the 'big one' (earthquake) comes, cell networks may be over loaded or go down.  IPhone users already have problems with an overloaded AT&T network in San Francisco.  Haiti's cell phone networks survived the earthquake fairly well.  One net...

Re: 50s/Main development

I still wish someone would start building modern-styled colonades, especially in locations like this (i.e., corner lots and relatively high-profile sites). The Founders at Union Hill did a bit of this, but it's surprising no one has really tried to recreate a modern colonnade.  The closest thing ar...

Yes, but the city has successfully leveraged the university to develop a much larger economy in high tech and life sciences.

Wow, I had no idea the tea was moving.  This is so incredibly dumb considering all of the investments that Omaha has been making to development and redevelop Downtown and other urban areas.  Such a lost opportunity.  This would be like putting Kaufman Stadium in Greenwood.

QT has a corporate policy that discourages stores from calling the police when they are robbed, so as to avoid bad PR.
