marriage ammendment
Many of them (including Jefferson, who edited his own Bible) were deists- they believed in something more similar to the wacked out religion of the French Revolution than of orthodox Chritianity. If they tried to tetach religion today, most conservative Christians would damn them to Hell! Good poin...

marriage ammendment
I saw some comments from Andrew Sullivan that I thought were pretty appropriate, which is surprising since the guy's a conservative Bush-lover: [Bush] is proposing to remove civil rights from one group of American citizens - and do so in the Constitution itself. The message could not be plainer: the...

marriage ammendment
if Christianity isn't meant to be with government, then why is the setup of the capital based on a cross? and why on the tallest thing in Washington (the monument) is there the words "Laus Deo" which means "Praise be to God". Not only are those words on the monument, but they ar...

marriage ammendment
1. Do you support an ammendment to the constitution that would define marriage as between one man and one woman? Or should this be decided at a state/local level? I say neither. With this amendment the United States of America rows futher toward a right-wing theocracy. Which is pretty damn funny wh...

What should downtown KCK look like?
One thing that has always perplexed me about KCMO is the lack of live rap & hip hop venues. It's not like there aren't talented rappers and urban artists around. Could KCK capitalize on this?

Re: I-49
I guess I don't see the pressing need for a freeway there that you do. I agree it'd be nice, but in terms of cost vs. benefit I don't see how we come out ahead. It's not like you can't get to any of the places mentioned without investing in a major new freeway project, and I am skeptical that such a...

Re: I-49
but that isn't a bad thing Are you sure? There are good things about it and bad things about it. I agree that KC is in a geographically convenient location, but I'm having a hard time tying that in to why we need highways jutting out in every possible direction. I don't know how that would increase...

Downtown Resident Survey 2004
When I was a kid, I preferred renting VHS tapes from the library (it was free). Instead of Ghostbusters or Robocop or whatever, I got to watch Carl Sagan's Cosmos miniseries, Shogun, A Brief History of Time...ahhh so much better for the young mind.

KC Touted as site for business growth
This reminds me that we gave 200 million to AA and let Vanguard simply die off.Right on. Rather than funding iffy deals such as the AA subsidy, KC should be helping smaller businesses, preferably ones founded here, or startups.

Re: Main Street MAX
Hah. I always figured the last place I'd want to be beamed is "up Scotty". Anyway, I don't think trains and buses suck. They can and do get the job done in other cities, they just do it at greater risk and greater expense than is necessary. Don't get me wrong, I'll take what I can get -- i...

Re: Main Street MAX
BRT would be a major improvement over the current bus system, but don't forget that we'll still have to buy buses, buy fuel and replacement parts and insurance for them, pay people to maintain them and drive them, and pay a massive beuraucracy to oversee the whole thing. I'm sure everyone understand...

Is Midtown Marketplace one of the city's greatest blunders?
They were trying to get Home-fucking-Depot into the urban core! Yeah. Sux. But when I was in Chicago, I noticed a Home Depot on Halsted(?), in Lincoln Park across from the bar my band played at. It wasn't like Midtown Marketplace at all. It was up to the street and multiple floors, and blended in f...

What major project does downtown need most?
I would only like to say that Kemper is in a great spot, the city just never followed through with ensuring the rest of the bottoms were brought up to speed. If the west bottoms were a thriving neighborhood now, we'd all be thanking the City Gods for putting it where it is.

Two words: LAND TAXOk, now here's a good question for ya: "Boom- you've been elected to replace the Mayor." What would you do to increase the actual property value of your home and lower your tax bill?

I hope you're wrong, DMW. I see KCK -- with smart leadership moves -- leeching onto the success of urban KCMO. But it's entirely possible that KCK will make more bad decisions and continue to rot.

These type of comments make it all worth it....
I found this site at least a couple(?) years ago, and it has only gotten better and better since then. I wish I'd have thought of it first! Well, maybe not. KC doesn't get in stupid arguments and turn people off with his attitude, and I do sometimes. ;) It will be impossible to measure the number of...
