Tower Place, could it mean more skyscrapers?
Well Devin, hate to bust your bubble, but look at this rendering. Tower plans to build lowrise, and right now, the Loop needs lowrise, mixed use development (like DST's westside of Downtown) to replace dozens of parking lots with 24 hour activity. Something a single 40 story tower and 3000 space gar...

Re: Proposed reduction in KCATA service
I still don't like this tax. People are going to expect more and when they don't see a lot of improvements to the transit system, they will fail future transit taxes. Speaking of transit taxes, why are we not voting on a larger system tax now that includes money for the existing system plus massive ...

Talk about contrast. At least the south loop is "ready" for development.
Did the Rubber Stamp Company finnally give in? I have not heard much out of them with the whole arena thing.

The building at 14 stories:
City Hall leases much of this building. I hate that crap they put on it and always wondered if they tore off the old stuff or covered it up.

OFFICIAL - KC Star Printing Press
This 200 million dollar Downtown project deserves a thread. This project is really taking off. Steel is up on the north end. The Star says the north end will rise eight stories but I can't tell if the steel represents the height of the building or not. It might be 80' (a short eight stories), but do...

Bi-State II
The thing is, in KCMO we already pay for these things 3 times. Once in city taxes, again in county taxes (at least in the Jackson County part of KC) and a third time in state taxes. Adding a bi-state tax means paying a fourth time. That's why there is a reluctance among KC residents. If the bistate...

Anti-Arena Campaign
And I say why not an arena proposed and mostly funded by someone else, along with that development? It can happen, and will, if KC plays its cards right. When? Another decade from now? I understand that some of you are content with the current progress of this city, but I'm not. I travel outside KC...

KS/MO thread #235233
[quote=""GRID"Exactly, Shawnee Mission is right there with Raytown right now, and believe it or not, Raytown is not a bad school district. There are more good districts in MO than KS and they are in better finacial shape (which is just amazing in itself). But I too constantly hear it...

Did you calculate all that?
Well, since the MO side of StL is slightly more than twice the pop of the MO side of KC, this only makes perfect sense. I would bet that a lot of MO side kids choose KU as well due to it's proximity to the metro.

KS/MO thread #235233
There are only two really good districts in Joco - Blue Valley and Olathe. There others are good, but not stellar. Yes, Shawnee-Mission used to be top shelf, but they are in a downward spiral of declining enrollment and declining revenue - being killed by the same sprawl that made them so good. If ...

$177M to renovate Kauffman?
I have come to accept that we will not be building a new downtown stadium. I think in KC something like that could easily end up easily costing 400 million plus. Most cities have available land where their old stadium sat or blocks of vacant buildings to tear down, KC no longer has neither. I don't ...

Phxcat, You make a lot of good points and and Kansas, KC and Missouri need to sell themelves better to the rest of the country, but I really don't think KS will ever be much more than a drive through state. It has it's scenic areas, and it's better than many midwestern states, but I don't think it w...

Okay, this is a pointless argument. All the towns (Lawrence, Manhattan and Columbia) have their own unique qualities and characteristics. To argue otherwise would be futile. A person completely unaffiliated with the schools and states would be a better judge of the towns, not alums or natives to th...

Tear it down and use the additional space for Chiefs' parking. Tailgating is a permanent fixture on the landscape of KC culture. Tear down the K and erect a monument to "the KC tailgater" and/or provide more parking for others that wish to enjoy the experience and work a deal to get a pct...

All that matters is urbanized area anyway. They can add Dickinson, North Dakota to our MSA if they want. We're still a city of 1.5 million people when you cut through all the MSA fluff. Where the blob stops, metro kc stops...but its all about marketing and comparing kc to other cities fairly. http:...

Columbia is definitely more of a college town, even thought it's bigger than Lawrence. Columbia is a self-contained city, whereas Lawrence is on the verge of being swallowed by Johnson County's suburban sprawl. Columbia still has a very bohemian feel, while Lawrence is much more gentrified and subu...
