lite rail my a$$
actually the light rail cost is $1 billion+. how many of you trust the city of KCMO w/ a $1 billion system that will never be in the black?? We can hardly keep ATA running (see Pitch cover story) OR keep our bridges/streets maintained. With a $800 million deferred maintenance budget and over 25% of ...

Chains not opening first stores in JoCo?
coffee girls is not selling electronics; my point simply was who cares about big electronic chains when the dialogue should be on small businesses willing to take a risk in today's franchised corporate economy.

so what is going on out in JOCO....
Yep, pro KCMO (ie, downtown!) is all that matters. I think the problem with our region is that there has been too much mine vs. yours; we have taken our eyes of the ball as a region and have let other areas pass us up. Question: Is West Wydott (ie Speedway area) considered a suburb? or rural? it cer...

Port Authority Looks for Riverfront Developer
$120k is a long way from the $30 mm + needed for an aquarium. w/ the city facing a $50mm+ budget deficit next year and no light at the end of the tunnel. anyway, the aquarium fad died out in mid 90's; KC needs to try and copy another city trend cause Kc is a trend follower, not a trend setter. i am ...

so what is going on out in JOCO....
actually i was refering to the joco burbs; all burbs are just as bad although there is slightly more authenticity on the mo side. i would take that over the noveau riche bourgeois trash in joco that thinks quantity is more important that quality and a saturday morning trip to Target/Costo is their d...

Welcome all Hicks and Rednecks!
White trash is a state of mind (those of you w/ shallow ones). It's not how you dress, how you look, where you live, how much you make...it's how you treat one another with respect and dignity and it is based on authenticity.... ---based on that, I would say there is more white trash in OP/Leawood t...

save me
I just took a new job located in suburban wasteland (previous gig was off 39th st, close to Plaza, Downtown, Swblvd, etc). My top 10 list observations of the burbs: 10. Big bottoms 9. Bad food 8. Mullet 7. Buffets 6. Fords & chevys 5. Strip malls 4. Qt 3. Bad architecture 2. Hummers (w/ dumb ass...

Not going to happen
Never going to happen....there have already been 2 rounds of RFPs issued over the past 5 yrs, both w/ strong local teams but both thrown in the trash. Why would an out of town developer want to take this on? Will the City have to pay them $500k to take a look just like they are paying Cordish $500k ...

my bad mr KC; you are righteous! but as far as Cordish is concerned, I will believe it when I see it and I really hope I am wrong cause I want downtown to be the best it can be! I just don't understand why we would have to pay a Baltimore company $500k to bring tenants to downtown? (Isnt that what t...

Confusion!!
HRC is indeed symbolic for all that is franchised; but it really is the less of many evils. I am somewhat confused by KC's remark that he/she is glad that the Plaza has kept HRC from locating there while Highwoods has squeezed out all local businesses and replaced them w/ national chains (eg, Califo...

Legends tenants
agreed; having visited several HR's throughout the country, they typically locate in vibrant, active downtowns, but also locate in major tourist/entertainment districts. HR has been wanting to tap into the KC market for a long time (ie, Power and Light) and if they have the opportunity for free land...

Several of the tenants mentioned are already slated for the Speedway, including a pretty solid rumour that HardRock is going to build a signature building as part of the RED development. It's hard for Downtown to compete w/ free land in WestWyDot.

Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction
The chances of another major sports team locating in KC are pretty much ZERO! Having studied the economic impact of sports/stadiums, it can be quatitatively concluded that this metro area (even by adding Wichita, Omaha, etc) would not be able to support another team based on existing population, pro...

never happen
never happen; developers do not have the $$ to pull this off; especially in a down market. maybe 10 years from now when suburban sprawl finally moves west.
