Con: such a nice building being put to use by a terrible organization.
Pro: assuming the move actually happens, I can't imagine that greeting the nice people offering personality tests on First Friday with a friendly "Hail Xenu!" will ever get old.

Re: Westport
I drove by yesterday and the parking lot in front of Foundry was being torn up - wondered if they were doing work on the Foundry. Seafood, huh? Sailor Jack's Snack Shack, to be precise - from reading between the lines of the article, I'm getting a strong "Char Bar, but with seafood" vibe ...

Let us also never forget that it was Shields that championed the Westport development moratorium and it is Shields who thinks parking should be required to be bundled in rent. Both absolutely detrimental to affordable housing. She cares nothing about true affordability. She saw an opportunity to sh...

Re: Downtown Buildings with Activity
wahoowa, I'm guessing you got the same email I did this morning.
In that email, it was mentioned that Regulated Industries will require consent from all property owners within 500 feet as a condition of reinstatement - I'd assume it's at their discretion when dealing with suspended licenses.

Re: 2019 Mayor/Council Elections
The active campaigning phase (for mayor) has already begun - I got a postcard over the weekend promoting meet-and-greets with one of the Scotts, and Jolie just put up a fundraising event on her FB page.

I'm guessing you used the Connect KC ballot application form to auto-pull your voter information and submit last time around - it's been updated for this election.

While mentioned previously in the Crossroads thread, City Barrel announced their existence publicly today - focusing on hops and sours.
When they open, they'll be the *fifth* (edit, forgot about Brewery Emperial - *sixth*) brewery within a 4ish-block radius of 18th & Locust.

Re: Slovenia for 7 nights
I haven't been to either Slovenia or Croatia, but both are high up on my to-do list for future European adventures. Slovenia was effectively untouched by the 90s wars in the former Yugoslavia and has done a very good job at marketing itself as a lesser-visited alternative Alpine destination. A frien...

A McD or even another Town topic would also do well in that location. We really need more late night/early morning options. A digression on Town Topic - why the 19th and Baltimore location isn't open evenings Thurs-Sat is beyond me, given that Up-Down generates an endless supply of buzzed, hungry t...

Re: We need a new airport!!!
Well, I do, for starters, but that's probably my Nebraska ties showing. :-) But any, it *is* illustrative for a) our long-standing skills in not getting out of our own way and in snatching defeat from the jaws of victory are being noted regionally, and for b) the comparative advantage KC has in numb...

The Omaha World-Herald has been all but mocking KC's airport adventures in a recent news article + follow-up editorial. If every council member hasn't seen these already...they should. Yeah, that was effectively someone taking Nextdoor complaints and turning it into BREAKING NEWS.
Speaking of Nextdoor, a post yesterday had a more specific timeframe for the CVS renovation - starting March 14 and reopening the first week of June.

Not enough typos or references to regional chains selling the exact same things one can readily buy here, but pretty good - that scores an 8.2/10 in my book.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
Tomfooleries and Granfalloon aren't in my semantic map of what a beer bar/restaurant is in the way Yard House, Old Chicago, Flying Saucer, iTap, HopCat, the Foundry, and Bier Station are. That being said, I've only ever been to Granfalloon...once? and my Tomfooleries adventures are invariably for br...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
If Darden wants that location, my gut feeling on what they'd put in there is a Yard House. Every other neighborhood between RM and Waldo has at least one beer bar/restaurant at this point.
