Will Lee's Summit be the next Overland Park?
Also, I want to express my extreme disappointment in the KCscout locations. Once again the northland is all but completely neglected. First phase went where the traffic is, mostly south, although it does include I-29 from the loop to the split and the Broadway and Heart of America Bridges. By the t...

I agree...I loved the Minneapolis skyline. I was surprised at how big it was. I probably should have left Minneapolis on the list and taken out Boston. For such a cool city their skyline is surprisingly boring.
Another one I wanted to keep on the list was Pittsburgh.

Will the Northland be the new Johnson County?
I think a little town in southwest Kansas already stole that title  But no, it is a very good idea, and goes along with a post that I posted a week or so ago but accidentally deleted when I was trying to edit it. KC needs to embrace its status as a friendly, open, ag-minded city in America's H...

Unfortunately I had to narrow it down to 10 and took out some great cities in the process (including good ol' KC), so this list is not all-inclusive

Howdy, I am bored and browsing some photos of some skylines around the country. I also wanted to play around with the poll option. So, any thoughts on the best skyline in the country? (go to http://www.citiscapes-art.com/cities.htm for some good skyline photos). Personally, besides the obvious Chica...

New I-70 for Jackson County???
Do you know what counties those are going to be?KCgridlock wrote: KC 1.85 closer to 2 million if you include new counties to be added this year and well over two million if you include Lawrence.

New I-70 for Jackson County???
I can't remember the exact ranking that came out in The Star last year, but I believe it said Kansas roads are ranked 3rd or 4th in the nation and Missouri roads are ranked 48th. That's because no one drives on the Kansas roads Actually, KS highways and roads are full of traffic throughout the week...

New I-70 for Jackson County???
Let's hope they do something soon because I-70 is a nightmare. I have seen so many wrecks on that stretch of road, I could write a book about them. Also, have you seen the website, www.improvei70.org ? They are working with the JackCO folk to design the future I-70. Very interesting stuff. That is, ...

Will Lee's Summit be the next Overland Park?
I would move to Lee's Summit in a heartbeat. I've always loved that area of Jackson Co. I interned a few years ago at the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill and drove the 470/50 corridors every day (Gladstone to Pleasant Hill 5 times a week...that'll drive you crazy). The development was amaz...

and phxcat, you make a good point about downtowns everywhere. It is definitely nothing particular about Kansas City, it is a major national trend. The only cities that have a solid downtown population (New York, Philadelphia, DC for example) either have no room to grow space-wise, or are losing popu...

KC vs StL
I think it has more to do with the lousy leadership than anything else. Personally I think people in KC want a vibrant downtown, new stadiums, state of the art transit, etc etc. The biggest problem seems to be that we have seen so many wonderful ideas fail that when a new one comes up it just seems ...

Trouble for Northland retail
Nah, there are some petty rivalries up north (Oak Park vs. Park Hill for one) but basically the northland is all one community. What I meant to say was that both ends of the Northland should have enough population to support competing retailers. You're right about the location of I-29. You've got a ...

Re: KC vs StL
Actually I think KC is more urban-minded than you think. If country music and pick up trucks made a city a small hick town, Dallas certainly wouldn't be what it is. I have spent a lot of time in and around St. Louis and they definitely have their share of "rural" people, to put it nicely. ...

Re: Trouble for Northland retail
With all these big boys going head to head for the same names, hopes of reviving Metro North seem dead. A mall that doesn't even recruit tenants or update the environments will fall prey to these bloodthirsty projects. I realize the explosive growth going on up there, but there's no way Gap, Abercr...
