Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway

Foundation work has started on the Cinergy side. A crew was working yesteday (Sunday) even, so somebody must be willing to pay to get things going. A good amount of activity today. Holes being bored for piers, rebar being assembled and placed. The various perimeter gates have been named and labeled,...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway

KC Star article today. The usual: work is ramping up but neighbors don't buy it after so many false starts. https://www.kansascity.com/news/local/article233707362.html Anyway, a new construction trailer and portable toilets have been placed at the site, and utility work around the perimeter continue...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway

Utility work around the site perimeter was quite intense the past week or so, and now it has slowed somewhat. Meanwhile, a trailer/office has returned and some workers have been clearing vegetation here and there. Based on past remarks, I'd expect work to begin in earnest next week, but that probabl...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway

Finally some official confirmation that the utility work on Roeland Drive is indeed Gateway-related: Posted on Tuesday July 23, 2019 Roeland Drive will be closed for wastewater work related to the Mission Gateway project. Great for remote workers to get out of the house, as I'll attest.

Re: South is Growimg

Definitely good to see all the south KCMO activity. I suppose people had to get fed up with development at 200-something-th and Metcalf at some point.

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway

City Council meeting was tonight at 7. Aside from, er, impassioned debate about whether the proposed Tidal Wave Auto Spa, to replace the derelict Valero station on Johnson Drive, should be permitted to have one story instead of the necessary two per the form-based code, Mayor Appletoft mentioned tha...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway

Oh, and I heard somewhere -- wish I could remember where -- that Neighbors Construction will not be rejoining the project after having to place a lien on the property last fall. Fogel Anderson will build the retail + residential on their own.

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway

Some minor forward momentum today (well, yesterday as it's past midnight). City website blurb updated, emphasis mine. No activity at the site that I noticed today. Gateway (Roe and Johnson Drive) - Construction of the apartments over first floor retail was started last fall. In mid-December, Cinergy...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway

The parcel across the Roe/Johnson Dr intersection to the northeast has been sold by Roeland Park for development as a new doctors building. The Sunflower Medical Group, currently in Mission just northwest of Johnson Dr and Nall, will be moving over there into a 30,000sf facility. A Nextdoor commente...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway

Mayor Appletoft kindly replied to me by email tonight. Currently the project is awaiting plan review from JoCo Wastewater with respect to the changes stemming from Cinergy joining the project.. Until that is done, Mission cannot issue further building permits. Staff estimated on 6/5 that the wastewa...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway

At a council or committee meeting I went to, one city official said they are not concerned about weather affecting the concrete or rebar, but they will want engineering to show that the piers have not moved out of position before they can continue.
