Re: Balancing Security and Liberty

I don't think boxcutters, nail trimmers, etc. are quite the same threat they used to be.  After 9/11, are passangers really going to let someone take control of an airplane by holding a boxcutter to the stewardess' neck?  Now that people realize that these folks are intent on bringing the plane dow...

Re: Balancing Security and Liberty

What could be easier than taking an approved item like boxcutters on a plane?  I've had boxcutters taken away from me in security at least 3 times when I worked and always had one or two in my purse and inadvertantly didn't take them out before travelling. Of course they always look at you funny an...

Re: Balancing Security and Liberty

There was an opinion piece in the paper this AM: Link -if it doesnt' come up the first time, try a second. It came up for me the 2nd time. Anyway-in her second paragraph, she talked about her 89 year old mother being "strip searched" (quotes are mine-not in the newspaper. I would like to k...

Re: Selling a vehicle in Missouri - I hate MO car ownership

If memory serves correctly, we had to pay 2007 taxes on a vehicle we sold before moving out of state in late October because we had owned it on Jan 1. We paid these in 2008. I've slept since then so can't remember all the particulars.

Yeah, we probably won't be buying it for home unless it gets sold in Indiana. We do have an autographed bottle waiting for us in KC whenever we make it there. I'm glad it's good at Ponaks. Makes us homesick. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v309/peachcat44/P1030036.jpg 6 parts Cuervo 4 parts Roses ...

Re: St. Louis Japanese Festival

Did you go for the Dale Chihuly exhibit in 2007? Truly awesome!!

We lived in STL in 96 and 97. It was interesting that there were more anglo folk performing and hosting than Japanese at this event.

MOBOT is indeed a treasure.

...so it turns out Mazuma is now using my video in their commercial. As far as I know, it is the only one they are using, despite the fact that I was cheated out of a prize. Granted, I signed my rights over when I uploaded my video but I had some reasonable expectation that they'd be good stewards ...

Re: The Health Care Debate

we may see some third parties develop, which would allow coalitions to develop and hopefully the best plans would emerge. That "coalition" crap is why politics is such a mess now. If we had a third or fourth or more party, pretty soon, the coalition building and gladhanding and paybacks a...

I will admit that I am not quite sure what you mean by what you are suggesting has not been tried.  However, besides the quotes that Mean listed which really leave no doubt behind the Republicans' motives (and the term "conspiracy theory" usually is not used to describe something that is ...

Nota...the fact that you haven't read the bill puts you right on par with Congress members!! I agree, but I'm not one who thinks I should be allowed to vote on it until I've read it. Unlike Congress who knows it all whether they do or not. for phx: I dont' mind the "legalese"-what bothers...

I moved to the KC metro from the farmland of northern Illinois, and grew up in farming culture...when I was grown, I took a job in journalism, and covered what was going on in agriculture in my region, among other things. Re: The Health Care Debate

Its really not that hard. I don't know why the news has framed the public option as the big debate, because its the small part of the plan. The plan everyone seems to agree on: -If you have private insurance: *You cannot be denied coverage due to a pre-existing condition *No private plan will be al...

I assume that rather than bring them all home and out of harm's way, you're saying send more people in to die? Late to the party, I know but I just wanted to comment on this. I dont' want another Viet Nam any more than the next person, but I dont' want to endanger our troops already there even more...
