Re: Downtown Doubletree to change to Radisson
I miss the Omni, too - and I think the Doubletree is the flag that put on the purple lighting outside, which is a nice addition to the nighttime skyline IMO. Anytime a Radisson moves in, you know the place will become run down. But I Holiday Inn is undergoing a nationwide upgrade of all properties ...

Re: Neti-Pot: Anyone have one?
I tried one last year when I was having sinus problems...my sister got me one and she uses hers a lot and swears by it. Needless to say, I'm sticking to Nasonex!! Seriously, this was one of the strangest feelings - you fill up the little pot and basically pour it up your nostril. I had no idea it ...

Re: any rumors about a new tallest bldg in KC?
Anybody see this little gem in the KC Biz Journal (online) yesterday? Funkhouser also said: "There isn't market-driven, private-sector demand for a 1,000-room convention hotel in Downtown." Other reasons would need to be found for such a project, which has been discussed as the next step i...

Re: OFFICIAL: West Edge development
Was the removal of the shiny metal the outcome of the Bernstein/Dunn construction cost disagreement? It's a shame that part is gone - it gave the project a little flava :D The finish on the buildings along Roanoke Pwky and 48th streets gives the illusion that the buildings are taller. This will ha...

Re: How do we keep Independence Center from becoming the next Bannister Mall?
I know this was discussed in another thread, but the last time I went to a movie at Ward Pkwy will be the LAST time I go to a movie at Ward Pkwy. There were tons of kids milling around in front of the AMC inside and they were yelling, screaming, running around, bumping into customers. In the theat...

Re: Wizards Stadium at Bannister Mall
I hope the petition is laughed at by everyone they ask to sign it. At the end of the mall's life, the only thing in there were mom and pop chotzky shops - that's not a bad thing, but one of the region's largest malls isn't the place for that kind of crap and they'd need a LOT of it to fill the mall...

Re: New high end apartment tower and Aloft hotel announced for West Plaza
I'd picture the aloft over the W, too, Kard. Plus, I'm hoping the W is still an option for the downtown hotel/condo tower if it ever gets off the ground. KC, in my opinion, is still a little small of a market for two Ws...even though New Orleans has two (or did) that's a whole different market.

Re: Pizza Bella - 1810 Baltimore
Pizza Bella is awesome - can't wait til the owner/chef's Chefburger opens in the P&L. If you haven't tried the sauteed brussels sprouts, I highly recommend them...will erase any notions of what you may have had of them as a kid (soaked in vinegar - thanks Mom). Charles Feruzza (sp?) needs to be...

Re: OFFICIAL: West Edge development
I've never seen anything proceed as slowly as this building. I just moved out of the Washington Irving bldg across the street in September, partly because the construction is/was such a pain in the ass. HR Block building, Sprint Center, 4646 Broadway all started and finished before this. After havin...

Re: Ticket Availability Question
For a lot of concerts the tix close to the stage on the floor are given to radio stations, promoters, etc. I've scored great seats by getting a Ticketmaster account set up, then opening several internet connections and hitting the 'Go' button on each right when tix go on sale. If you're in KC metro...

Re: Cauthen Speaks
You're right on, Knucklehead, by saying Funk has no common sense. How many times have we heard him or Gloria say something like 'we're always working - we didn't know being mayor would take so much time?' This guy has absolutely no political savvy, let alone common sense. Who wouldn't have at lea...

Re: Cauthen Speaks
I think we all know Funk will dodge giving any specific reasons for this...he'll just say that the city is now going the way of fiscal responsibility and Mr Cauthen was hired under a different administration that didn't share those goals. If there are any examples for this, they'll have to leak out ...

Re: Michael Smith in the Crossroads
I think I need to try it for lunch - went to dinner there w/two friends a couple weeks ago and was not overwhelmed. I found the place stuffy and the curtains were made of some heavy velvet-like fabric that prevented any visual interaction outside of the dining room. And at 8:30 on a Friday night m...

Banner is up on building at 31st/Gilham on corner, directly north of old Spy salon thing-y. I think it may have said just Bottle Rock, though. Building is still being renovated.

Re: Apartments around the Plaza
Yes the building at 47th/Roanoke is going condo - and there it is in a thread on here, but can't remember where. The designs I saw had some new balconies on the outside of the structure, just above the front entrance. I seem to remember that this was supposed to be a good value in terms of cost per ...

Re: Apartments around the Plaza
It's a friend of mine actually in those apartments - I recently moved out of the Washington Irving because of the noise and dust from the new bldg across the street. My friend has lived in the bldg at 45th/Roanoke for probably 3 years and just moved into a larger apartment within the bldg about 9 mo...

Re: Apartments around the Plaza
I've been a guest on here for a long time and decided to take the plunge as a new user. A friend of mine lives in an apartment bldg at 45th/Roanoke - this corner is tranforming the two-story brick apartments into condos. I don't have a problem with the conversions, but my friend received a certified...
