Re: El Porton Cafe Is Up Next

That block needs to be razed for residential. Nobody's going to dine there, shop there; people go specifically for Costco/Home Depot and go on home.

Re: Record Bar on Westport Road

El Torreon would have been a good spot. On Facebook, Tulipana ruled this out- someone asked "2nd possible rumor: recordBar is moving near Martini Corner possibly in the CowTown upstairs space or in some other warehouse building." Tulipana says, "We looked. No good." Its a compel...

Re: Things to do in KC. Check out this list. Feedback?

Best thing to do in KC is to bike it! Rent 'em or buy some refurb'ed from 816 Bike Collective! The thrifts will sell you any busted-ass bike for $$$. 816 makes 'em road-ready for about the same price as thrift/craigslist, fact. I was just talking to a co-worker about biking from Olathe all the way ...

Re: Why Can't the West Bottoms Be Redeveloped....?

Talking with some friends over the weekend, it sounds like Golden Ox may be coming back to their original location and sharing the space with the Stockyards Brewing Co. people. Interesting if true! The Biz Journal article on the apartment project confirms that the Golden Ox is coming back, citing B...

Well, shit. This was a great outlet for music reporting, and the domain's lapsed and original Blogspot, which was full of reviews and essays, abandoned. What the hell?

Kansas City Media

Alright, proposing a topic for KC-based media outlets and discussion of their stories. This may prove redundant, adding more discussion to the outlets' existing comment threads. But, maybe you'd like to discuss a Tony's KC story without stepping its dogshit-brained forums? http://beltmag.com/ ...thi...

Re: BBQ WARS!

Yeah, Q39 lacks enough smokey flavor (they use an indoor pit) but the quality of meat is well above avg. Burnt ends, brisket and ribs above avg, pulled pork pretty generic. Still need to try Char Bar (been mostly away from KC all winter) but Q39 is good enough to make the KC BBQ rounds for visitors...

This is an example of KC-specific NIMBYism, futureshock, tradtionalism.

Is there a thread re: the Eastside? 18th and Vine is the most referenced point here. At any rate, I wanted to leave a tip here- there's an industrial building being demolished at the corner of Cypress & Truman. I talked to the guy about a pile of floorboards and beams being set aside, and he sai...

Good question.
I've found myself in the NIMBY category lately regarding the Woodside development on Rainbow.

Kansas City is a post, a pitstop, a Crossroads.
That's how people use the land here, and that's fine.
Let's see what it retains as far as accumulating population and culture but historically, that's its culture.
Its not so much a loathing but a location.
Own it!
