Re: Gay marriage
And even if you don't think there is anything that ontologically differentiates male/female from same sex unions, the expression of derision, amazement, incredulity, and loathing that someone else might observe this as an ontological difference....that's a pretty amazing cultural phenomenon, I thin...

Re: Gay marriage
Geez, this thread is nuts. Kind of interesting, but largely perplexing. It seems to me that the idea of uniting male and female has been (historically and cross-culturally) more fundamental to the idea of marriage than the number of people involved. The complementary union of male and female has a l...

Re: JaCo Translational Medicine Sales Tax
Translational medicine was one of the Chamber's Big 5. I think this particular proposal came out of the Civic Council, which is an oddly under the radar group in its own right. Big backing from the Hall family and, as I understand it, and whatever other interests align with Children's Mercy and St. ...

Re: JaCo Translational Medicine Sales Tax
Apparently, polling has suggested easy passage as well. I wouldn't say I'm really well-versed in the specifics of this tax, but it's mindboggling to me that we're able to make such an enormous investment that comes from a small group of civic leaders, has broad opposition among nearly every civic mi...

And obviously implying that the left doesn't believe in free speech is ridiculous and has no factual basis. It's not clear to me that the left and the right are radically different in their willingness to limit free speech they disagree with. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals is pretty left, yet h...

Re: Google picks KCK/KCMO for ultra fast fiber network
For the record, when I use my work laptop at home, I as well as some of my peers have trouble staying connected to VPN on Fiber. We pull 120-170 Mbps on WiFi and about 800 Mbps hard wired on our home computers but for some reason, we just can't stay connected to VPN - it's always trying to reconnec...

Re: Google picks KCK/KCMO for ultra fast fiber network
The real power of it is the ability to upload files to any computer on the internet at server speeds. With that in mind, they're marketing it wrong, in my opinion. That's the new thing. That's the area for innovation. That's the reason people and companies need to move to KC. Aiming it at the home ...

Not that unusual for Neapolitan-style pies cooked in 900+ degree ovens. Maybe 3-4 minutes.slimwhitman wrote:A 2-minute firing time? That sort of goes against everything I know about baking a pizza.

Re: bbq.
I have long been of the opinion that KC's best bbq and the coolest thing about its bbq tradition is how many people amateur people here cook, and cook well. There are weekends you literally cannot drive 10 minutes anywhere in the city without smelling bbq. Agree with this 100%. That's pretty much h...

Is this any different than the maglev that has been talked about on this forum for years? I mean, except that it's now being talked about by Elon Musk.

Interesting to read that Yelp review, we had the same menu a week or two prior and it's always fascinating to get another take on a similar experience and see where it overlaps. As I think Peanches said on Twitter shortly before or after the visit, "we're a podunk kind of place." I wouldn'...

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Royals are also looking at White Sox rightfielder Alexis Rios, who is very overpaid and in his early 30s. That sounds about right. Dutton and Ken Rosenthal says Santana is available for the right price. Shouldn't this always be the case, for every player? It's only news when you get an idea of ...
