MO roads vs. KS roads in the snow

KC wrote:I would give them the benefit if it wasn't for roads in KS being clear.
Point taken, wind generally doesn't stop at the border.

MO roads vs. KS roads in the snow

I'd give them benefit of doubt. There was a 30mph wind last night, it's kinda hard to keep a road clear more than a few minutes in those conditions.

Re: Lighting cool

I was driving south on 169 today towards the Broadway Bridge and noticed that one can clearly see the north side of the Marriott as one approaches downtown. That's a nice view of skyline. They should consider putting those decorative lights on the north side as well. I agree. Most of my views of do...

Johnson County?

What a sprawling mess. Gently-sloping mountains in the background cause optical illusions when judging distance in photos, what looks like a few miles in this photo could easily by 20 miles or more of box buildings and surface parking.

Channel 9 leaving Downtown?

Plaza Lighting, Missed Opportunity

I hate how early many stores in the Plaza close. Many close at 6:00 or earlier. How can anyone make money staying open only just long enough for people to find you locking up by the time they can get to you after work?

If it's from the tax assesor then it would be part of the tax records which are public information.

Chapman Farms - Mixed-use proposal for Blue Springs

I never though I'd ever see the day that there would be developed areas of Blue Springs closer to 50 Hwy than to I-70. Wow.

Downtown Holiday Lights

KCLofts wrote:Anyway, the lighting ceremony is Tuesday, Dec. 2nd. I think things kick off at 5:00 and the lights go on at 5:30. Ceremony takes place at Barney Allis.
Sweet. I'll still be at work but I'll have a fantastic view of it.

Why doesn't the River Market deck out in lights?

Re: Metro North Mall

Plus I just get tired of hearing that Oak Park it the only place to shop in this town. Oak Park Mall is a bland boring overcrowded shoebox with crappy parking where you can't find much men's clothing and where the JC Penney is only really half of a JC Penney. Metro North and Independence Center may...

used to be? I thought all that had moved over to The Scout after they started closing the gates. (Back in the day The Scout used to be the place my friends and I would hang out at all night long in college. Back then we usually had the place to ourselves and it we'd sit on the pedastal talking betw...

Re: Hell Yeah

I wasn't aware that the Liberty Mem. closes at 8 pm and they lock the gates to the mall. It seems to me that it should be open later--especially now that there are going to be Christmas lights to view. Blame vandals! Well, vandals and the OTHER activity that used to be prevalant there after hours.

Walking Tour: Crossroads to the loop

Now that I've seen how easy it is I'll probably start walking to work whenver the weather is nice and I know I won't be needing to go anywhere over lunch. Not only did I notice construction that I normally disregard while driving by, I noticed all sorts of cool detail on the buildings I see daily th...

Walking Tour: Crossroads to the loop

I got to do a similar walking tour today. I had to take my car in for service this morning at a place in the Crossroads and then when I called my friend who was supposed to come by and give me a ride back home, I was unable to rouse him. (We had both been up late last night.) Rather than get mad, I ...

More debate on Downtown's boundaries

I could see classifying the Downtown Airport and the Harlem area as part of downtown, those are both north of the river yet I consider myself to be downtown when I am at either. But Vivion? Give me a break.

Dec 2 : Downtown buildings Christmas lights lit.

Earlier today I noticed several ropes or cables hanging to street level from the top of 1KCP. I was hoping to read that 1KCP would be one of the buildings lit.... now THAT would be a spectacular sight! :)

The Knights are back

Who here remembers the Knights? You know, the basketball team that 2 years ago set the KC record for most consecutive wins with a 25-game winning streak. They're back, though they lost their season-opener 123-136 Saturday night in Juarez. Their home opener is December 2nd. Here's their web site and ...

AMC vs. Dickinson: Round II

I think the only theater in town that continues to sell out on weekends is the Independence Commons 20 Mainly because it's the only theater with modern comforts/seating/ammenities servicing a combined population of nearly 250,000 people. Since the developer of the new Blue Springs theater went nowh...

Looks like a repeat of the battle between Blue Springs and Lake Lotawana.

BTW did Lake Lotawana ever manage to annex the Barber strip mine?

Lawrence and "The Day After" - 20 years ago today.

One thing I always wondered about that movie was that, if we assume the warheads were of similar strength, why was Kansas City completely obliterated from downtown clear out to the Plaza while the one that hit Lawrence left damage only comparable to a powerful windstorm?
