Re: Westport's fate post-P&L
I think this update will make that area of Westport better and turn a dated, 1980s suburban style hotel into something modern, clean and new. suburban style? For me, the building was a nice contributor to Westport. It is architecturally forgettable, but not bad. That is Westport....a bunch of bland...

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L
The Q is changing color... This reminds me a bit of the 1960s when we covered up all those icky 50 year old buildings only to cherish them later and repair the damage caused during the earlier coverup. In 2030, they will strip this building back down and try to make it look like it did before. I am ...

Re: Nelson Atkins - Moving Forward
Here is a comparison of the opportunity to turn those historic homes into a hotel, using the MASS MoCA concept. Connect the four homes together in a discreet and beautiful way and they preserve the great homes while getting their hotel across the street. In many respects, the NAMA opportunity is far...

Re: Nelson Atkins - Moving Forward
Maybe the historic houses could become the hotel. Sort of like a B&B? Expensive hotel with actual art in the rooms?? We stayed at Porches Inn next to MASS MoCA in N. Adams, MA several years back. (An awesome stay, by the way.) The museum bought these old run-down houses, merged the porches toge...

"Landscape Urbanism" at its best (or worst).

A few ideas in this proposal might have meat, but most of this is pure pipe dream.

Re: Downtown and Tactical Urbanism
Not downtown, but in Westport: I have been dying to calm Mill Street from its current car sewer design. I want to turn the stop light at Westport Road into a 4-way stop sign. Remove the center turn lane. Add parallel parking on both sides. That is just my quick fix. I also want to move the curb inbo...

^ That was the best location for a boutique stadium. Would have been a great location. My graphic...with apartment buildings fronting Main near the Memorial and at the base of the Hill on Pershing. This would connect all of the disconnects that make this area such a wasteland. http://i28.photobucke...

I don't know that I would call it a revival, but city leadership seems to have become aware of the gem this could be and they are taking steps to encourage change in the right direction.

Please rename this thread: Villa Capri to move from downtown OP That move is a death sentence. How can this make any sense at all? Map the address....it has no visibility and is itself in a declining area. https://www.google.com/maps/@38.941753,-94.701903,3a,75y,239.62h,87.97t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sHP...

And keep in mind that the hospital was there first, with the shops and other amenities springing up to serve it. Not really. Sure, there was a small hospital there that grew, but the shops pre-dated a hospital of any real size. The original hospital was on Rainbow and the look and feel of the 39th ...

Re: 39th St./KU Med development?
Well, there are structures right on that corner -- I'm not sure what's all under there, but there are a dozen manhole covers and other access points. I suppose they could have put a building on there, but it would just be a dummy. Everything there could have been designed/configured differently. An...

Re: 39th St./KU Med development?
Where could they have built the physical plant instead? It could have been built in that location, but with a kind eye to 39th with a liner building along the street. As built, it flips a middle finger right at 39th & State Line and serves to buffer the campus FROM the state line activity inste...

Have all those non-profits in the mall like that cat adoption place or the election office gotten eviction notices? Don't they get tax breaks for giving those places free or reduced rent? All the remaining for profits in that mall on long term or short term leases? Has the Glenwood art house gotten...

Re: 39th St./KU Med development?
A building here is good. I have zero confidence that KU or their hospital architect has a clue how to build a building with a decent sidewalk experience. No hospital in KC has attempted it. The fact that they built a facilities plant at the SW corner of a vibrant 39th & State Line a few years ag...

Re: Dismantling of Great Mall (ongoing)
I think Great Mall is too far away to bring in Hispanics from KCK and Independence Ave. I think Metro North, or Indian Springs would be better. This company has a Hispanic Mall in Oklahoma City called Plaza Mayor, so I think something like this is possible very soon. There are a ton of ESL Hispanic...
