Re: Joe Reardon not running for reelection
So given all the Brownback weight Murguia seems to be swinging around, what did you decide? I voted for Mark Holland in the primary but I'm seriously considering voting for Ann Murguia in the general election. However I need verbal assurances and a written/signed pledge that she will not be bound b...

Lane 4's site plan shows "breakfast restaurant" in the largest retail space of phase 2. My first thought was First Watch is going to relocate from Westport Rd

Re: 39th St./KU Med development?
An urban 7-11 is a cool get, though it'll likely hurt the local convenience store across 39th Street. Urban 7-11's would be cool in other areas of the urban core as well. Certain parts of greater downtown and the Plaza could use something like that. You know I never even remember that little conven...

Re: JJ's Restaurant at 48th and Belleview Destroyed by Fire
Well it has become clear after everything I read that one person died and 15 were injured due to the incompetence of the Kansas City, MO Fire Department. Not that I am a big time fan of the fire department but where do you get the idea that the FD is to be blamed? The news report I read said that t...

Re: Argentine Grocery Store
This is good news. Thriftway, the last grocery store in Argentine, closed several years ago and sat vacant until it was recently torn down. The new library that opened recently replaced that building. http://www.kansascity.com/2012/09/26/3834080/argentine-residents-unveil-new.html I do believe the ...

Re: JJ's Restaurant at 48th and Belleview Destroyed by Fire
The Star had a good piece on the explosion in yesterday's paper. The timeline of events started with the 4:45-ish 911 call from the contractor, which was a little curious to me because I thought that there was a 911 call about gas shortly after lunch. What was interesting was that in the transcript...

Why is it that every company that does horizontal boring for underground utilities is based out of Olathe?

Well it has become clear after everything I read that one person died and 15 were injured due to the incompetence of the Kansas City, MO Fire Department. Whoever was in charge at the scene should be summarily dismissed and brought up on manslaughter charges. But I'm sure the Union will be able to sh...

I said the same thing after watching the first plane crash into the World Trade Center. Then the building collapsed on live TV.chaglang wrote:I'd bet that wall comes down.
The building behind it should be fine. They have some exterior work to do, but it looks cosmetic.

Re: Joe Reardon not running for reelection
Why do news outlets keep saying that Mayor Reardon "stunned" everyone by not running for a 3rd term. I was not the least bit "stunned". I fully expected Mayor Reardon to step down, thereby continuing the tradition started by the first Mayor/CEO of the Unified Government, Mayor Ma...

Re: The Overland Park Money Exodus
I was in JoCo in December after being out of the metro area for a long time. I had to make a stop at JCCC's King's Cove office. My first impression was that the area felt very poor. Looking at the link on the OP, I see that it's not quite as poor as I was expecting (yellow and orange). I am just cu...

Re: The Overland Park Money Exodus
I have to pipe in. I watch this very thing closely. I think some of what you are saying is correct, but some of it is a scare tactic. I have lived in older OP for 40 years. I have seen change. I agree that the core area along the Antioch spine is in big trouble, all the way from 103rd to 47th. I wo...

Re: OFFICIAL: The Legends at Village West
Anyone notice that they've stopped work on the facade of the first Cerner building (the one that is nearly finished)? There is a small area on the east side, facing 435, where the facade has been finished but that's it. And it's been that way for several months. I wonder if they've had issues with ...

Google is rumored to be opening retail stores per the following article: http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-57569710-93/report-google-to-open-u.s-retail-stores-later-this-year/ I may be jumping to conclusions, but I would assume KC would be a natural selection for one of these stores given the servic...

Re: Joe Reardon not running for reelection
I don't know who to vote for. I want to support Ann Murguia but if she is being funded by conservative Special Interests then I cannot in good conscience vote for her. I don't want a Mayor beholden to special interests. I'm leaning towards Mark Holland because he is endorsed by Mayor Marinovich. But...

that would bemost disconcerting if true.especially given the Governor's plan of devastating public education in the state and her other anti democracy policies
