Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
My main observation about the Crossroads site is that a stadium plan would need to be developed with a strong attention to detail to make it work as part of the neighborhood in a way that doesn't totally blow up the place (to a lesser extent I also think this is true at EV if we're to have anything ...

Re: Misc Crossroads News
I will argue, from how I perceived it, is the CPC is trying to avoid establishing a dangerous precedent, as the cited the intentional destruction of the existing structure via neglect of the property as a primary factor in the denial. Were they to grant it, it could inspire individuals such as Doug...

CPC denied blight designation. I'd recommend people watch the discussion to gauge the current temperature of the CPC. https://www.youtube.com/live/w8mvIM0iU44?t=2015 Can you summarize in a couple of words (for those of us who don't quite have the time to watch the video?) Re: General Amtrak Discussion
I think the MU (?) study identified most of the big ticket items that would improve travel time and reliability, some of which were actually built during the Obama administration. However, the scheduled time has remained at 5h40m for as long as I've been paying attention to the MRR and reliability ...

Re: General Amtrak Discussion
I'm admitting I'm not anything close to an expert here and am just offering opinions for discussion. Everything I said could be wrong. But what we're doing isn't working. I'm not sure it's salvageable in its current form. It reminds me of when the military wanted to close down bases but everyone sa...

Re: Hyperloop between KC and STL
Was reading about the bright line project and I know nothing about high speed rail. How safe is it? How do they prevent attacks? For example, only way to utilize a plane for an attack is to hijack it or plant something on it. Wouldn’t the entire rail system be much easier to plant a device on? Have...

Re: Hyperloop between KC and STL
I don't want to be naive, but sabotaging a train track seems like it would be very inconvenient and annoying for passengers and do some minimal economic damage for trips not taken/business not completed, but I think that's about it.

I used to look forward to Kevin's pieces for the Star even before I moved to KC. Hated to see him leave the Star, but I have really enjoyed CityScene and am grateful he kept it going for as many years as he did. KEVIN, thank you, and I hope we will see you at least semi-regularly in Flatland!

Re: General Amtrak Discussion
I tried to take the Amtrak home from stl yesterday. At the Sedalia stop they’re like it’s going to be at least a three hour delay because of a freight train on the track that couldn’t get to siding. They openly said if you have anyway to not stay here, take it. I was lucky to meet two other solo pe...

Re: NE Corner of 14th & Wyandotte (300 unit apartment)
It will keep coming back to F500/1000 type companies not having headquarters or major offices in downtown KC. If one or multiple of those companies moved workers to KC, then all of these projects would suddenly become much more viable. Totally agree. I think jobs nearby are what are driving most of...

Re: Hyperloop between KC and STL
I wish Missouri would take some of the work it commissioned on Hyperloop feasibility and carry it forward in studying new rail options between KC and STL. I'm not certain what the work product was from those efforts, but surely some of it could be reused in the future (not the vacuum tube parts, hah...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
The street is ~60 ft curb to curb (I can't think in metric), so there is a lot of opportunity, particularly if you remove street parking. The street is effectively today 6 lanes wide. It might not make sense to create La Ramblas but it could be something very nice.
EDIT: KC streets are so wide!

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
Agreed. Some level of pedestrianization of Nichols would be nice, and I think could enhance the beauty and economic vitality of the street, but I also think the Plaza will be alright without it. For me, bringing some residential to the bowl area would be the real get and would open up lots of possib...

Key to success is connecting it to Union Station & Crown Center, one big family thing in the city that everyone is cool with. Wonder if they could build more pathways or a connector electric bus by the railroad tracks behind both US & PP. I feel like Pershing is overdue for a redesign. It i...

Kansas City Needs a Proper Christmas Market
Splitting this off at Dave's request. Kansas City lacks for Christmas activities, perhaps the most glaring of which is the absence of a real Christmas Market. Plenty of agreement that a Christmas market would be great. But where should it go? Potential locations include: - Nichols Road on the Plaza ...

Re: Misc Crossroads News
I commend places for trying, but no one has pulled off a fun adults holiday themed event yet here. I miss the bundled up markets in Chicago, waiting for friends with hot spiced drinks, music, and wintery food and crafts. Everyone here really hibernates for a few months. It feels like a real missed ...
