Re: Rye
Opening Rye is the mid-life crisis. It's True Religion jeans and the P&L party porch and Rogaine. I'm sorry, it's pathetic. It's a 50 year old man cheating with a 25 year old. And the part that frustrates me is there is a beautiful life mate at home who has supported you made you who you are an...

Re: Rye
^^^ But don't you see, this just makes it all feel so dirty. It's like going to the casino with your buddy and he wins $1000 at the craps table, buys rounds for everyone and says emphatically, "We're coming back tomorrow!" You see the wild look in his eye and know it's over. I'm glad Rye i...

Re: Rye
I'll admit, I'm a little knocked on the nose about Rye and the choice of Mission Farms as it's location. With all respect, it seems like an amazing opera singer choosing to perform in Miami instead of New York City. Sure, Miami is a great city, but the best of the best should be where the best of th...

Re: 2012 Election
^^ Yeah, but you don't need the fringe Republicans to get a deal. You just need a coalition of Boehner Republicans who voted on Plan B and moderate Democrats who believe that we need to reduce the deficit and entitlement spending to meet in the middle. Let the fringes rot. America should be governed...

Re: 2012 Election
Either way, the President campaigned and won on the stated promise to raise taxes of those over $250k. Recent polling indicates a solid majority of Americans like the idea. If you're looking for the middle, I'd say it's right about there. If the President wants to dig in his heels and not give on t...

Re: 2012 Election
I think there is enough consensus in the middle to get a deal done. The problem is the President has no desire to be in the middle. Increase taxes over $400K, substantial entitlement cuts that take place immediately and a raising of the debt limit. I think you get all the Boehner Republicans and a l...

Re: 2012 Election
$250k a year is weathly at any age. It may not seem like it to you, but $250k so dwarfs what most americans will ever earn in a year. I completely understand how it doesn't "feel" wealthy, but try living on $49k for a year and I think your perspective will change fast. Say a person starts...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
South of Crown Center I'd like to see a Main St redesign to push speed. This is one segment I'd like to see the on street parking pushed onto side streets and the system given a dedicated transit lane each way + implement on as many cross streets as possible a physical blockade for no crossing Main...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
once you constrain the vote/cost to a certain area, the conversation shifts. You have to remember, the price also shifts. That's a lot of cash to shoulder on as little as 10 zip codes and I think that weight will change some votes and bring out more opposition than past votes. I think the reason th...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
Looking at the map, I suppose it could pass. But, 2008 was a much different place than the economic hell of 2012/13. And, I think that people liked that it was a grand plan paid for by the entire city. Trying to push it through where just certain areas would shoulder the main expense would be a bad ...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
I've been hearing the state transportation money argument a lot lately. It seems that people think that is the best way to get funds for extending the streetcar and light rail initiatives. I don't think it will work, and it's not even worth the wind to argue about. The gas tax goes to roads in Misso...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
UMKC students already get a 'free' (included) Metro pass after they passed a tuition increase. Might be tough to pull off another increase. MAX ridership went up further when UMKC passes took effect. It might be more difficult to try and pass a tax on just the neighborhoods along Main or, more diff...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
With both the KCAI and UMKC both pushing downtown/Crossroads offshoot campuses from their main campuses on 'Main' and Brookside, why don't we set up a universities fee to pay for the next streetcar extension from US to UMKC?
