Re: General Amtrak Discussion
Left unsaid or maybe previously but electrification of rail at any speed - commuters regionally and high speed nationally - is essential if we are to eventually wean ourselves away from higher carbon fuels. But NOTE that you really cannot electrify any vehicle - cars or rail - if the source of elect...

Re: Regional Transit Coordination
A rail spine from DT (possibly NKC) to UMKC will suffice for a decade+ along with crosstown BRT lines and other spokes to rest of metro. But there needs to be an effort to encourage bus fearing streetcar riders to use MAX and other bus lines. As mentioned in other threads, until UMKC streetcar expa...

Re: Regional Transit Coordination
NKC hasn’t identified a way to pay for a rail line there. A city wide 1% sales tax with rail adjacent property tax wouldn’t even cover construction and operations of a line from the north end of HOA to Armour. They have no chance of crossing the river on their own. KCMO transit sales tax is up for ...

Re: Regional Transit Coordination
Like he (plural) said...plus sentiments change, not sure how long ago last presentation was. Show the benefit statement to the region again - think bigger to include satellite communities to get the cars off the hwys and try again? simultaneously hit that gas tax + mass transit allocation. Where the...

Re: 5th & Main Southern Corners
Stop thinking of urban living as fit people who always want to walk outside. Climate controlled paths provide a lot of value in creating an accessible city as one piece of the puzzle. Twenty some years ago Minneapolis was serious about removing their 10 miles of skywalks to help the street level bu...

Re: 5th & Main Southern Corners
agreed on design, not bad. Still indy ingress as noted and hopefully still some light openings on patio element to help add light to the grotto. Increased density is good here. Now lose the cars. See zoox.

Re: 5th & Main Southern Corners
I don't like all the garage entrances, and where they are placed. I agree that one should be facing Independence Avenue. I also think the alleys should be utilized more for garage entrances/exits. Those entrance/exit portals facing Main should instead be retail bays. Nix the wide bridge over Main w...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion
It's in the Missouri Constitution. Good luck with that. I believe Colorado had the exact same issue. Their workaround was that there was no real definition for the terms so their legislature passed a law that provided a very broad definition for what it was (which included transit). There is for Mi...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion
That's exactly the recommendation, once we have a source of revenue to fund it. Add a JoCo and East Jack line and you're set. Unique branded coaches like LA's FlyAway service. back to my gas tax argument for funding transit...no one has poked a hole in this yet other than "lengthy and complex&...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion
For kci they should do an expensive bus. Europe does this in a lot of cities. It costs about $30 and typically has three stops or so. Nkc, River market, Union station, and plaza. That's exactly the recommendation, once we have a source of revenue to fund it. Add a JoCo and East Jack line and you're...

Re: KC in TV and Movies
I don't think I've seen an episode of that show since the first season. I hope it has gotten better, but I thought the b-roll footage was pretty bad. They had one shot of the Plaza or the DT skyline interspersed with some random rural or small town shots that weren't even from the KC area (I rememb...

Re: 5th and Main (Northwest Corner)
Main - plan I have shows a fully activated Main for northbound ingress into the parking garage (above ground) as well as egress then out northbound with some parking along park. Conveniently, the elevation of the street allows for 2nd floor garage access off 5th from the SW corner and 3rd floor gara...

Re: 5th and Main (Northwest Corner)
240 spaces for 300 units is one of the lower parking ratios we’ve seen right? Wish they could move a lot of that to an Independence Ave accessible garage. I think its worse than that...~160 of the 240 is required replacement for the City Market merchants displaced. Thus this is more like a true ToD...

Re: 5th and Main (Northwest Corner)
Garage access should be on independence only. A non-ingress route into the RM via a garage directly off Indy is a great idea and something I have tried to also talk about to whoever will listen. Lot is there, others have agreed, just need some visibility and city initiative. This should be a requir...

Re: 5th and Main (Northwest Corner)
I had seen earlier iteration of FH proposal with an activated Main street for garage access. I assume still the same. They have used KEM before and seemingly a good design although the south-facing greenhouse atop would cook but great views agreed. Unsure if the FAA rules apply to the top elevation...

Re: 5th and Main (Northwest Corner)
I'll take the larger project with less parking, please. All parking in/out should be on a restored Main Street between 3rd and 5th. 240 spaces for 300 units is one of the lower parking ratios we’ve seen right? Wish they could move a lot of that to an Independence Ave accessible garage. I think its ...
