Re: Work emails on personal phones?

I understand your concerns, but I have found that I prefer to put out fires when they are just starting to smolder, rather than finding a raging conflagration on my desk when I get back from a long weekend. After hours or on the weekends, I only respond to the emails that are really emergencies. Th...

Re: Kansas, Missouri battle over companies

This isn't much, but it's an encouraging sign--especially that an up-and-coming company moved downtown without seeking tax incentives. http://www.kansascity.com/2013/06/27/4316908/downtown-kansas-city-picks-up.html CorEnergy Infrastructure Trust said Thursday the firm will relocate its headquarters ...

Does the three year match period mean that construction might not start until three years from now? I didn't see anything in the article about the timeline other than that. Hopefully they can get their ducks lined up sooner.

Sprint real estate roller coaster makes a SoftBank landing A 2011 analysis by Phil Kirk, former chairman of DST Realty Inc., found that the subsidized campus, coupled with relocation incentives offered to companies moving there, dropped the effective rent rate to near $10 per square foot or less. Re: More development in the Northland ...

There was a time when that section of Paseo was not a part of KCMO. When built the Paseo inside of KCMO was built as a parkway, outside of KCMO just a plain street. Look at Ward Parkway. You have Ward Parkway as a boulevard and south of 79th you have Ward Parkway Plaza. The boulevard south of 79th ...

Re: More development in the Northland ...

There's streets north of 435 and south of 75th without sidewalks or curbs, too. The low standards were alive and strong while that area was getting build out, too. Go look at The Paseo at 85th and compare it to the same street anywhere north of even 79th for a case study in differing philosophies. I...

Re: Northgate Village neotraditionalism in North Kansas City

So, should the streetcar extension go down Swift or Burlington? I prefer Swift, but it seems the city council wants it on Burlington. swift feels more like a streetcar street. there's already contiguous storefronts with decent sidewalks on most of that stretch and the traffic moves slower. burlingt...

Re: OFFICIAL: The Legends at Village West

Imagine what 4000 new employees could have done for downtown KCMO. Yeah, I think that's pretty much implied in any statement about the deal. I didn't see the need to beat that horse's corpse again. My point is that if the State of Kansas was going to devote $232 million in public financing to this ...

Re: Despite downtown boom, office space sits empty

If you look at Google Earth, the approximate per-floor square footage of the Cerner building under construction the Legends is around 30,000. The area of the vacant block south of the old Fed is 90,000 SF. Same goes for vacant blocks in the East Village area. The USDOT building by the Federal Courth...

The wife and I went to the Sam's Club on N. Oak yesterday. There was a large chunk of the parking lot cordoned off for an expansion of the store off the NE corner of the building. New steel is going up outside and the pavement was stripped away from the face of the building out a ways. It looks like...

How is his tax program not an entitlement for pass-through businesses then? If you're own a pass-through, you qualify and you pay $0 in taxes. Other corporations don't get that, so it's a very narrow tax distinction.

Political boundaries that follow old river channels that no longer line up with the riverway is actually pretty common. Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

I'd really love it if there was a ticket booth along the route that sold tickets to all shows in the area. It would be a nice feature to head downtown without a plan, checkout scheduled events from small to large concerts at local venues (Bulldog/Kill Devil up to KCPA/Sprint), Alamo/Screenland movi...
