Star tearing down buildings for parking lots
Since parking lots seem to be the theme of the day - did anyone else notice in this self promoting article today where the Star drops that they are going to be tearing down a couple of their buildings for MORE SURFACE LOTS!. Hasn't the Star paved over enough of the northern xroads already? http://w...

Re: Targeting remaining large surface lots downtown
i voted for the xroads lot. I think this lot is the worst due to the fact that it seems to impose a big demarcation between the renaisance areas of the xroads and the areas that never get attention. Nobody ever wanders past this giant lot and it shows - just look at whats east of it. It is a gian...

Re: St. Louis company to renovate three buildings into lofts
I would be willing to bet that they may be one of the partys bidding on the PCB site. Â It sounds like they are definitely going to have to build a garage somewhere and unless Mannys is willing to part with one of their umpteen surface lots I don't know where else they are going to put it. Â It soun...

Re: St. Louis company to renovate three buildings into lofts
If these are the two freighthouse buildings I am thinking of, they are two of the biggest down there. That should definitiely add some people to the streets. Any word in their on their timetable?

Re: Shawnee Mission Schools
It actually has less to do with wealth of the population than might be percieved. Most school district funding is based on student head count. The reason SMSD has had "budget issues" is declining enrollment which translates to less state and federal funds; they are supporting the same in...

Re: Shawnee Mission Schools
I think that the SMSD may see a bit of a turnaround in enrollment here in the next few years. Growth in JOCO is starting to shift to the West instead of South. A lot of the new development likely to occur over the next several years will be in Western Lenexa and Shawnee. People are starting to re...

Just so you don't use the same slippers for multiple females - I could see how they might not take that well.KC Kropf wrote: I enjoyed my concrete floors for a year, but they do tear up your feet somewhat.
And, the females complained often about them.Â
Had to buy a bunch of slippers..

Re: how optimistic are you for the future of downtown and KC's urban core generally?
i'm sure at some point the core will finally break through on a mass scale in terms of being THE place to be. Â I think it is already THE place to be. This is evident by the prices they are comanding down there. As many people on this forum can attest - there is not much available down there in ...

Re: Grass at Liberty Memorial?
I could definitely see limiting use of the memorial area itself to festivals centered around veteran oriented events - i.e the Fourth of July and Memorial Day. I don't think there is anything disrespectful about the memorial day concert where they have fireworks and play patriotic symphony music - ...

Re: H&R Block Construction Photos
I think it depends on which side of the building you look at it from. The elevation slopes sharply to the South so it would appear that at least one more floor will be visible from the South than the North. You can see this already - there is a floor that is below street level and squared off at t...

Try Lydia's. Very reasonable prices for upscale dining.

Re: Help-Downtown Rental
5) A two bedroom apartment is currently not compatible with the idea of "loft living." I don't mean loft living in the literal sense. Rather I am refering to exposed brick walls, concrete floors, etc. If you are looking for a legitimate 2 bedroom (both with enclosed walls) with thes...

Gootsku. My girlfirend and I will be moving in a day ahead of you. I glean from your posts that you are another KU Law alum as well. I know we are excited - seems like a really nice building.

If I had to eat half of one of these things, I would be looking for the first place to abandon it too.chrizow wrote: my car has never been "beefed" but i did have a half-eaten rice cake perched atop my car one morning.Â

Re: River Market crime stats?
I never had any problems when I parked on the street at 20th and Chicago in Omaha, aside from one incident of what looked like ground beef being splatted on my hood. No issues in KC either. I had to laugh at this - the idea of a "drive by beefing" lead me to think that the Omaha crimi...

Re: New business in the crossroads?
Yeah they have two commercial spaces in the building. One is in the part of the building that juts out towards Union Station to the South and looks like a really cool space for a store or restaurant - it has super high ceilings and tall windows that should have a nice view of the station and memori...

New business in the crossroads?
The girlfriend and I went down to walk around our soon-to-be new neighborhood and we noticed that it looks like they might be starting to finish out the retail/restaurant space at the South end of Stuart Hall. Anyone heard anything about what is going in?

Re: Main Street MAX
I went to a wedding reception at the clubhouse on Baltimore several months ago and tried to hail a cab afterwards to head to midtown. The doorman told me there was a 45 minute wait for a cab. Frankly any city where it takes 45 minutes for a doorman to find a cab while standing outside a building i...

Re: Main Street MAX
Why would the city cowtow to the 3 or 4 cabs that operate in KC. I mean seriously - its not like we have a thriving taxi industry to damage in the first place.
Re: Case Park
Obviously kids are going to find away to gather and get up to mischief - thats just the laws of nature. However, if they have managed to gather by the hundreds (much less thousands as was the case here) in a big unsuprevised party and the police department can't even get it together to send a singl...
