I want a Tom Pendergast streetcar. MLK, Truman, Pendergast.

Re: 1800 Walnut

It looks much better than what I was imagining in my head. The only concern that I have about height is that it may satisfy too much demand and delay prolong the existence of our parking lot hellscape. I don't think that this particular building will soak up all the demand or anything, but if a lot ...

Re: 2019 Mayor/Council Elections

Rumor has it that Jason Kander is considering a run for Mayor. On his last podcast he did say that he had a big announcement to make soon, but a mayoral run would be surprising. He has been so involved with national politics that it will make it an interesting race, but if he won, the office of mayo...

Those things signal less congestion to me.... Not more Ride sharing generates congestion because the cars are out driving around looking for rides or on the way to pick up a passenger. It also reduces transit use. https://qz.com/1103247/uber-and-lyft-services-may-increase-road-congestion-as-people-...

It's never been studied and that hill might be an issue, although it was there when the previous streetcar system was in place. Using the cycling route elevation feature on google maps, it looks like Warwick to Gilliam is a 4.7% gradient, about the same as the Pershing to 30th gradient on Main. Loc...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

From the Biz Journal article: In the long term, James said he hoped to see an east-west extension in the streetcar’s future, as was proposed in 2014. Voters rejected the larger effort to extend the streetcar to the Country Club Plaza, as well as east on Independence Avenue and Linwood Boulevard. “I...

Re: Divide MO into two states?

You're probably not thinking big enough. Especially west of the Appalachians, states are a construct that does not even come close to matching the economic and cultural patterns within the US. We should redo all states borders or have state constitutions redone to give more power to the county/city ...

Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project

Omaha has built several nice 12 to 15 story appt. towers on their riverfront. Think we should demand at least a 7 story minimum the rest of the way here. I would rather have the PortKC rendering of the riverfront over Omaha's riverfront any day of the week. Omaha's riverfront is the opposite of a d...

Re: Muehlebach Hotel / KC Club Project

Would think all this event space around downtown would eventually transition to retail space as demand increases, at least some ground floor event space. Downtown has the lowest/best retail vacancy in the metro (consistently under 3%) so maybe sooner than later? I think that right now we are at a w...

bspecht, do people with scooters do a pretty good job of staying off sidewalks in DC? There, at least they have bike lanes and enough cyclists that cars know to keep an eye out.

Re: e-Scooter Share

Whoa, is the debate about e-scooters on sidewalks vs street/bike lanes? Having 2 kids and living thru the razor scooter craze sidewalks would be a nightmare. I thought we were talking bikelane only vs street and was going to say KC doesn’t have enough bike lanes for that to be realistic Ideally the...

In Atlanta, it seems like these are way more heavily utilized than bike share. Of course, the south is waaayy to hot in the summer for physical activity of any kind. Didn't see any on hills, but it seemed like they had plenty of power. They may struggle on hills, but it would probably be faster than...

Did a search, looks like one battery bus model can get 45 miles with just a 10 minute charge. Other searches show 120+ miles on a full charge. Sounds like it's ready for prime time. Shenzhen, China has already replaced all their buses with electric buses, and Shenzhen is much larger than KC.The onl...

Schools should teach the 50 largest cities, rather than the 50 states. Then we can change our name to "Kansas" and the when residents of Nowhere, Kansas say they are from the state of Kansas, people will say "oh, you must go to the boulevard brewery all the time!" / "How's t...

Re: KC in TV and Movies

I've heard "City of X" before when referring to cities named after their state, but I've never really heard it before when referring to KC, probably because we're (mostly) in Missouri. To me, it was written by someone that just assumed KC = Kansas. The correct way to refer to KC by using ...
