Re: One Kansas City Place

I was in OKC recently- that building is pretty much their entire skyline. They have more tall buildings outside of the core than within it. It's a nice looking building, just super out of place.

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

I swear I saw those renderings months ago. I think they are older than the cityscenekc article. Edit: post on this forum from February: http://discuss.nextkansas.city/t/river-market-chat/111/9? Plus, when I was looking for that link I noticed that it looks like Craig Slawson, the developer, is a mem...

Re: Bike Lanes

Yep! There are thinking about making putting another cycletrack on Burlington Street/MO-9, and the renders show a streetcar. But they probably want KCMO and the state to be involved so that they can run it over the HOA bridge and connect it to the current system in some way. http://bikewalkkc.org/bl...

Stalled while they fight the contractor in court. Could be awhile. They offered to give back the deposit of those that pre-leased. I believe they found a new general contractor already, but they can't move forward.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I had an Uber driver this morning going to the airport that tried to convince me to vote no in November. I tried to explain why a single terminal was better, but she was doing all sorts of mental gymnastics around my answers. She was against the single terminal for all sorts of reasons, from complai...

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

KC grabbed Richard Florida and Joel Kotkin to be on KC's HQ2 proposal team. Thoughts? Waste of money? https://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/news/2017/09/14/amazon-hq2-florida-kotkin-kansas-city.html Waste of money. Richard Florida isn't a magic bullet. We need transit, bike lanes, walkabilty, attr...

Re: Bike Lanes

Mostly buffered is better than no buffer, I guess. They weren't buffered in the original plan and I don't think it changed. Probaly not in the original city plan, but I mean the "Make Grand Grand" plan, which would've made a two way cycletrack on one side of the street. If we were going to...

Re: Independence Ave MAX

I don't like that plan because it would require people to actually pay attention to which MAX bus they got on. I think it would increase confusion and decrease rider satisfaction. It seems trivial, but it could be a big difference in ridership. People should be able to get on a MAX bus at a stop and...

I'm glad something is getting done, but it's a shame to see them backing down from the original vision.

Does anyone know if these will be buffered or not?

NY Times cuts KC and STL before first round... https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/09/09/upshot/where-should-amazon-new-headquarters-be.html They immediately culled the bottom 50% of the top 50 metros based on job growth, without sorting for anything else first, like an international airport. ...

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

Best quote from brookings.edu article: Before communities go all in, they should think about who will ultimately win. Amazon has set the table in a way that ensures that just about every community that plays this game will lose, and not just because all but one place will come away without the gran...

Re: West 39th Street Apartments

They need to push all the new buildings back from the street to create a wider sidewalk with green spaces. That stretch of 39th feels really hostile to pedestrians. I always walk on 38th instead. Or put 39th on a road diet... Yes! 39th street is begging for a road diet. There is a two block stretch...

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

Is North Loop acreage including the lots near 8th/Wyandotte E of Phoenix Bar? And will they really need 100 acres if doing 70+ story buildings? Probably. They won't all be 70+ stories. Looking at the Seattle campus, it's about 98 acres. It is actually two campuses though, one at South Union Lake, a...

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

If the full freeway removal option was chosen for the north loop, that would free up 32 acres. https://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/print-edition/2016/02/19/closing-the-north-loop-a-big-bang-development.html But even combining that with the East Village and existing North Loop acreage, it still is...

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

I hope that it at least goes to a city close to KC in size, but with better transit and infrastructure. That might wake some people up, show them that we need things like transit to attract these big companies like Amazon.

Re: Kansas, Missouri battle over companies

I think Kansas City has a decent shot at this, but our lack of transit may hurt us.

The North Loop is absolutely the best location.
