Re: Burger King - Midtown Sites
These parcels may also have deed restrictions (covenants) preventing certain uses. Like no food or beverage sales (so to protect the current owner from competition). That happened to a commercial property I helped to sell at 39th/ B'way -- it had briefly in the 1970s had a 7-11 with corporate owners...

Re: Housing Prices Are Booming in U.S. Cities
BTW, one input into housing prices is that a new, exurban SFH costs something north of 400k nowadays. If that reflects the actual construction cost, then it also marks kind of a baseline price for re-builds in the desirable streetcar neighborhoods. The days of the 200k in-town house will not return ...

Re: Housing Prices Are Booming in U.S. Cities
^The same is true of KCMO south of 75th Street (approximate city boundary at that time) -- Waldo, Red Bridge etc -- No sidewalks, no curbs, no runoff infrastructure (just ditches). It feels like the country rather than a manicured city neighborhood

Re: Crown Center: urban disaster, shining star, or in-between
Despite all of the naysayers, Crown Center is an incredibly attractive office market for small businesses -- the amenities and parking offered by the complex makes it stand out downtown.

Especially if she doesn't have checked baggage, departures is the way to go. Just past the TSA checkpoint on the far end of the center area (farthest from the AA gates) is the exit to ticketing, which takes arriving passengers to the upper level. Then right out the door. Easy Peasy -- this is how I ...

Re: Is KC Tenants destroying the development future of downtown KCMO?
^Also reminds me of the rules to rent in my old midtown building in NYC -- the rent was several thousand per month (this was decades ago) and I had to demonstrate 50x monthly rent in annual income. That meant serious paperwork, adjusting some income dates and other fancy footwork to meet the require...

Re: Is KC Tenants destroying the development future of downtown KCMO?
One way to handle potentially "problematic" tenant applicants is an independent review before tenancy. Nicer buildings in big cities/ resort areas have this in the form of COOP or Board interviews of tenants before approval of the landlord-tenant contract. Potential issues like presentabil...

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
At the old airport, there used to be two officers (presumably with ticketing powers) who really kept cars moving. As a reminder the parking regulation is clear: it's No Parking, and Standing Only while Loading and Unloading. Old terminals were the same rule as new terminal. In the old Terminal B the...

Re: Capping the Loop
In this climate fountains are operable only 7 months out of the year. The only one I know that does not look awful in the winter is the Bloch fountain. For a fountain in this project I would rather see a small one that is heated for year round operation, like the ones at Crown Center. For a signatu...

Amtrak has both deep and long-time support in red and blue states. It's not going anywhere for the foreseeable future. IN a way, Amtrak exists more as a tourist feature except in the northeast corridor, where it is one of the primary transit methods. But the national part of the network functions la...

Re: KCI Flight Schedule Adjustments
There are spokes and then there are spokes... Large spoke cities like Boston, Nashville, Seattle get served from every hub for the big three network airlines (AA, DL, UA). From time to time some of them even get upgraded to mini-hubs. Big cities that are hubs for a competitor (Dallas, Chicago, San F...

^ Just saw this
Why were the preservationists not interested in saving Velvet Freeze (northeast corner 31st/ Gillham)? That building stood for a full century, and was a contributing, historic structure, built right to the sidewalks.

Delta jumping on UA/AA pulling out of NYC. So thats good to see. Was hoping they would do that Increasing JFK from april on (2x A220) - I am curious what this does to JetBlue Increasing LGA Jan-Mar to 5x a day They are pulling back LAX back to 1x a day in Jan/Feb Looks like UA also pulled back EWR ...

This entire summer has been a catastrophe for air traffic touching the "tri-state" area aka NJ, NY, CT. Meaning, mainly, that the three New York airports Air Traffic Control have been so understaffed as to cause mass cancellations every week. Boston also affected. It's nearly destroyed Jet...

^sucks but not surprised
It's an easy upgrade and almost always empty. But if UA is cutting EWR (did I read that here?) then only JetBlue will operate to NYC nonstop? Or is Delta still running the Embraer to LaGuardia?

Re: GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In South Florida, Fox cut-away at Halftime from the Chiefs game to the Cowboys eventual loss. They did cutback twice to show KC touchdowns and (probably this) Taylor Swift geeking out in a skybox. My host's daughter was gobsmacked that Taylor Swift was in KC. She wore my lucky Chiefs hat from Halls ...

Henry and Richard Bloch (both deceased) and descendants funded - the company H&R Block plus several iterations of HQ buildings -- the office complex on the northeastern edge of the Plaza at 4400 Main Street, and later the P&L downtown tower at 1301 Main. (there are earlier structures, also) ...

I feel like closing Walnut is a good choice as it would decrease car traffic going into P&L. Baltimore has several hotels built wand soon to be built with a block or two of the park. Closing off Baltimore could create some logistical issues for some. I also like the pavilion having more room fo...

I’m not sure I could tell you the last time AA or United started a route to Europe from a non hub/focus city. Delta is the only one that does and it isn’t often. IND and PIT both flamed out for Delta. It really only is an international airline thing to fly to mid sized US cities, so that’s why the ...

^What interest does the KC business community have internationally? H&R Block and Hallmark are strictly domestic companies. So are the Kemper banks and the utilities. Same with Cerner and BATS or whatever it's called these days. KCS of course now has North American interests, so perhaps a nonsto...
