Re: California Prop. 8 gay marriage ban - national protesting - coming to KC
And you wonder why the African-American community is against gay marriage? Perhaps it's offensive to relate the struggle of a race that was stripped from their homelands, brought here in chains, beaten while they worked for nothing until finally given freedom and then forced to live in seperate sq...

Re: California Prop. 8 gay marriage ban - national protesting - coming to KC
Never said this. You're right - I misunderstood the part below where you mentioned parades, holidays, etc. with the term lifestyle. Sorry for the misquote. I don't really think the issue has anything to do with marriage. Most gay people that I know are hardly religious. Being able to marry is pu...

Re: California Prop. 8 gay marriage ban - national protesting - coming to KC
How is this not a seperation of church and state issue? Marriage is a sacrament that is deemed holy by the church. Why should the state force to change this definition from it's traditional meaning? This is the same country where I voted for the President last week...in a church. I understand th...

Re: California Prop. 8 gay marriage ban - national protesting - coming to KC
One aspect is that gays aren't afforded the same tax status as a straight, married couple, not to mention the ability make the same legal decisions (in terms of medical issues, for instance). Even though the company I work for has domestic partner benefits, when I signed up for them I found out that...

Re: Kansas City Officially Has A New Mayor - Mark Funkhouser
Looks like Funk's only going to gauge constituent approval by whether or not he's voted into a second term - he plans to run again:

Re: Kansas City Officially Has A New Mayor - Mark Funkhouser
One of my main questions is how was this guy to work with when he was City Auditor? I know there was divisiveness between him and the mayor and council, but as a boss and peer how was he? And how did his wife fit into the scene when he was Auditor? If anyone saw 'The Office' last night, I'm betti...

Re: Kansas City Officially Has A New Mayor - Mark Funkhouser
Just keep in mind that while the mayor is wasting a ton of the city's money and resources (and obviously taking our focus off of the important issues), a recall would also be expensive for the city as it would have to go to the voters. I wonder how many people in this city still see Funk as the per...

Re: Kansas City Officially Has A New Mayor - Mark Funkhouser
If the light rail proposal was going to fail despite the Mayor's issues, I wish the lawsuit info had come out weeks ago and given people enough time to start a recall and gain signatures at the polls. The Council may be spending time and energy dealing with Funk and his wife, but it appears the one ...

Re: Official: KCMO Light Rail
You think so? I think they were just using whatever they could to defeat the proposal, that was just handly. Take that away and the detractors will find another reason to oppose. I agree - if the route had been fixed, then the detractors would focus on another issue. And sure, there are some ope...

Re: Official: KCMO Light Rail
A Different story and a great way to lose a ton of votes. Not a different story - take a look at the map of the areas that approved light rail in their Wards http://www.kansascity.com/images/media/LightRailVote_Flash/ . The only Wards that approved the measure were along State Line all the way sout...

Re: Official: KCMO Light Rail
There is no way light rail would go down Ward Pkwy if residents get upset over the aesthetics of traffic lights and there is no way Brooksiders would give up their Trolley Trail or widen Wornall. Going down Troost or The Paseo is a different story.NDTeve wrote: Include the Ward Parkway/Wornall Corridor?

Re: Kansas City Officially Has A New Mayor - Mark Funkhouser
WTF? Why can't that man just move on? Is the problem that he can't make a decision without her input or that she needs to know about everything he does? I didn't vote for Funk, but I don't have a problem admitting someone I didn't vote for is doing a good or great job. This guy and his wife are ...

Re: Collison: KC can learn a lot from Des Moines
I take something different away from the article - that Des Moines put in place and has followed for a decade development directives. While KC does have the Sasaki (sp?) Plan, there is still a need to offer development incentives and follow a comprehensive plan until market-driven development can s...

Re: OFFICIAL: West Edge development
The problem didn't seem to Bernstein running out of money, it seemed to be that he was, um, difficult to work with. You're right - I just didn't state my case very well. I think Walton is going to have some 'difficulties' with Bernstein, as well, but maybe they'll knock the rest of the constructio...

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District
Isn't Cordish under a contract timetable that a 'significant amount' of retail stores be occupied by X date? A potential Staples would fill a large percentage of space and get them over a hump where they would no longer be at risk of meeting their obligations.

Re: OFFICIAL: West Edge development
Bernstein will find a way to make it work...even if it means getting Walton to start work and then not pay them. He's not hurting on funds - he's had at least some of the McD's business for decades. This is the guy who invented the Happy Meal (and will never let anyone forget it).

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District
I think there's a need (and a market) for Staples downtown, but it's something that could be placed on any surface lot or on the ground floor of any building. I'll keep my fingers crossed that they don't go the way of Office Max and Office Depot on Main and board up the windows to prevent theft.

I tend to agree with GRID. I don't necessarily think VW would have gone up without the race track but only because the race track, as GRID put it, gave the area an identity. I don't understand - GRID feels VW is there NOT because of the race track, but you say you agree with him and then say you d...

Re: Kansas City Officially Has A New Mayor - Mark Funkhouser
I'm sick of Gloria's constant need to provide yet another jab at her detractors. From Funk's Front Porch: http://funksfrontporch.typepad.com/ On a More Personal Note: The Mayor received about 80 emails regarding the “volunteer” ordinance. That only 80 emails were received speaks to the fact that th...
