Re: Jackson County discusses stadium upgrades
Did you crawl through the pipes? I''m not necessarily saying the Chiefs aren't BSing us, but it wouldn't surprise me to hear that Jackson County hasn't been maintaining repairs on infrastructure like plumbing and wear and tear repairs. There are many things in the stadium that are falling apart. Y...

Re: Jackson County discusses stadium upgrades
-The Chiefs are playing in a 30+ year old sports complex So? Thirty years doesn't have to be the pre-determined lifespan for a stadium. Most of the other stadiums that were built at the same time as Arrowhead and Kauffman that have been replaced recently were crap . Multiuse stadiums that tried ...

Re: Jackson County discusses stadium upgrades
Downtown baseball makes the product attractive even when the team sucks and lets face it the Royals will need that help more years than not. You might think so, but the numbers don't support it. Look at the attendance figures of any bad team with a new downtown stadium. Attendance has not improve...

Re: TY LAW
Yes - actually, he is. He runs one of only 3 franchises not to win a playoff game in the last 11 years. Now that he's got an offense that rewrites NFL record books every season, he's made every right move to try to fix the defense. He's certainly made some questionable moves over those eleven yea...

Re: Trade Bait for the Royals
You are forgettting one very important point about Wily Mo - he has a tremendous upside and is also still only 23 years old. And like you pointed out with Grienke, you can't look at the stats to determine long term trade value. I agree that two young arms is a high price to pay, but we do have a l...

Re: TY LAW
Ty Law pretty much said he and the Chefs aren't even talking. Thanks Carl! Thanks, indeed. Thanks for bringing in help on the d-line, linebacker, and the secondary instead of just overpaying two players who play the same position. I'd much rather pair Surtain up with Ty Law than bring in Carlos H...

Re: Trade Bait for the Royals
I don't expect Sweeney or Stairs to be traded. The Royals don't need to dump salary and Sweeney's contract doesn't expire until 2007, so it's not at all similar to the Beltran situation last year. The only way Sweeney moves is if the Royals are presented with an incredibly sweet deal for him, and ...

Re: We could fund a new downtown ballpark every six months...
First off, there wasn't anything like seperation of church and state until after the founding fathers died... They must have been impressive men to have written about separation of church and state after their deaths. "Believing that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his G...

Re: We could fund a new downtown ballpark every six months...
Why? ... Why not? Should we allow people to sin any longer freely? Take a look at where society has gone in the past century... Sure they had protitution, gambling, etc... in the 1800s, but they didn't have widespread use of drugs. So your assertion is that strip clubs lead to drug use (although it...

Re: Star: AMC to revive Empire Theater
I didn't read the article, but from the headline, it didn't appear that it was going to house a movie screen. Is that correct? No. The redevelopment plan, scheduled to be formally announced at a press conference this morning at the Midland, calls for the historic Empire Theater at 14th and Main st...

Re: NYC's Freedom Tower altered...
A little late with this, since I've been out of town, but I've got to add my two cents. The new design is a little better than the original design, which I thought was just ugly and pretentious, but I still don't like it. I don't know how you can really justify a 69-story building that's 1776 feet ...

Re: Strong Earthquake Risk to Central U.S.
This isn't really news. The media retreads this story a couple times a year in their endless campaign of fearmongering. It'll happen when it happens and there's little you can do except try to build sturdy buildings and make sure you've seen all you want to see in Memphis and St. Louis.

Re: The Future of the World.
I'm not an unconventional weapons expert by any stretch, but I think the whole EMP thing may be an urban legend that took some grain of truth and stretched it to the extreme (the neutron bomb is another example). If such devices (EMPs, not neutron bombs) were easy to build or obtain, I would think ...

phuqueue....that comes from expert reports....arenas make more w/o major tenants. the city pulls more back, when a team moves in they take a much larger % of the gate. Kemper is now making money....they don't have a huge major tenant.....it's all about the management of the facility, not as much ...

Re: Blues for sale
Who really gives a shit anyway? I mean, haven't it already been said that concerts and other non-sports arena events make far more money? Personally, if we didn't get a hockey team or a professional basketball team it wouldn't hurt my feelings a damn bit. It seems to me like we'd be better off w...

Re: Need Facts or Help
The lack of street life probably is due at least partly to the chicken-choking heat. I can't believe that metro SA is 1.8M. I've had two job offers down there, and each time I did research, I usually saw figures of 1.5M+. The 2003 estimate for SA metro is 1.65M, according to the US Census . Kansas...

Re: KC Design Center: Re-imagining the Public Realm - May 24th
It was an all-around great evening. To start, the speaker Max Page alluded at length to our culture's sheer fixation with the fictional destruction of New York City, as can be seen throughout the entertainment media, in movie after movie where NYC gets pulverized. Page is ever so subtle in conveyin...

Re: How to fix baseball and save the Royals
This is the attitude that I can't stand. You try to compete EVERY year. You don't take years off. We've been bad for so long, that everyone just accepts this. Don't underestimate the power of one more good hitter. I mean, look at all the one run losses we have. Even if we didn't win the division, w...

Re: How to fix baseball and save the Royals
We're the only team in the league that can't sign decent free agents. When we try, we get the Juan Gones of the world who end up sucking. Maybe Baird did try to sign some guys, but bottom line is he failed, and as a result we have huge gaping holes in our lineup. Regarding the stopgaps, what is the...
