Re: A vision for 8th St between Main/Broadway as pedestrian only

You are right. 4th Street east of Grand has in fact been vacated by the city. It is no longer under public control. Since they're now in private ownership someone needs to buy up all the properties along that corridor and create a village. 300 units of housing and a retail pedestrian mall sounds good.

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

^ Old Katz on Main and Westport not being bought by a developer was a HUGE missed opportunity. It strikes me as being seized, just by a very different and valuable kind of opportunity. What the current Drugstore culture is doing is to serve as an entrepreneurial pollinator. There's so much new and ...

Re: Historic Old Northeast

Some of our data miners might offer more informed observations, but the details mean everything. How large is the population sample and where are the geographic pin drops? Add similar sample factoring to the measurement of 'violent crimes' and then you have a real conversation. Without the data stru...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

The city has considered development of the three lots at 5th and Main for a couple of years. The SE and SW corners would be apartments and some retail along 5th with their own parking needs served within. The NW corner of Main at 5th would be a multistory garage which would contain all of the parkin...

I am fond of buildings that are four stories or less, but I'm curious why some are concerned about buildings being too tall?

What's the issue for you?

And a slightly different view.

Go ahead and get that north loop decommissioned and champion building something meaningful on it.
It just might turn out far better than you can imagine.

And while you're at it, would you please tell all those people from the suburbs to stop moving downtown.

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

Take a look at yesterday NYTimes article, recounting the Frugal Traveler's visit to KC. He was at Arthur Bryant's and in talking with a local (Leawood?) and Frugal shared that he was going to Westport. The local told him to be sure to be out of Westport before dark, because it wasn't safe. Frugal ma...

A very accessible and informal option would be The Downtowners.
Dues free, this group primarily meets monthly at a luncheon and provides a guest speaker on topics related to the growth of downtown.
