Re: New York. What would you do if you were in NYC for one weekend?

Fang is a former New Yorker, so I would probably do a much different visit than others. Thus far, I've lived more of my adult life there than anywhere else. Although my twangy accent might conceal that fact. When I used to tell people I was from New York City, they always seemed a bit perplexed.  I...

Re: 2007 KC Brigade

Glad to see the Brigade got off to a nice start.  I met Michael Bishop's brother last Saturday.  He was staying at the Howard Johnson's where I have lunch quite often.  He was pretty excited about seeing how his brother would perform in his debut with the Brigade.  My guess is that he wasn't disappo...

Awesome photos TP.  Nothing but the best from you as usual.  Hope you enjoyed your little trip up to Weston.  I've always kinda dug that little town.

Re: Kansas City Star Annex: To be Demolished?

Will the Star's printing press be around in 5 years? I ask b/c the NY Times publisher recently wondered, "Not sure we'll be printing in 5 years"  If the digital age renders print obsolete, what then? There will be a hard copy of the paper in some form but not necessarily paper.  Electroni...

Re: New panhandling ordinance would make street performers illegal

No you're proving YOUR illiteracy. 1.  There is NO indicator in existence that judges "job quality."  So the myth that only "Walmart jobs" are being created is false and are just "pop culture" generalizations made by left wingers.  High end jobs (healthcare, computers,...

Re: OP CompUSA closing?

Microcenter is a much better store and is just down the street. Been there many times.  It is better than Compusa if you're looking for parts such as standoffs for a motherboard or something of that nature.  If you're a hobbyist whose only interest is building PC's then it can't be beat.  However, ...

This has my vote for best thread recently started by anyone.  Very interesting to read how people from outside ended up here and to learn about their thoughts and experiences as new Kansas Citians.  No fighting so far either.  Good idea Bahua.

He was elected right after a giant economic bubble.  It was impossible for that job loss to occur.  It wasn't Clinton's fault, and it wasn't Bush's fault.  It was the law of economics.  I hate Bush too, but you clowns who blame everything on him make all of us other anti-Bush folks look like econom...

Re: OFFICIAL: Kansas City Mayoral Race

I was going to let it go, but I can't.  First of all, read this article from the Pitch on the Citizen's Association.   It'll give you a bit of an idea who the people are who are supporting Brooks financially.  http://pitch.com/2007-02-15/news/power-to-some-people/ As for how people vote, one thing ...

Re: OFFICIAL: Kansas City Mayoral Race

Nice response thrillcekr.  That's how intelligent debate happens. While I agree a lot has improved, throughtout the city, it's NOT a nice place to live for families that have a better option.  If you go through the majority of neighborhoods, the people who live in KCMO (south of the river) are a) g...

Just saying that somebody who doesn't stand for anything, and at the very end of his political career, but is being propped up by the $$$ that is being given to him by his supporters (Citizen's Association - as of today, the local black lobbying group, several prominent business folks, and the back...

Re: OFFICIAL: Kansas City Mayoral Race

"Working well" is relative.  Visit the east side some day and see if this whole thing is "working well" for the majority of the people in this city.  Check out the crime rates.  Murder rates.  Schools.  Unemployment. Dilapidated buildings, blight, stray dogs, trash, etc.  All of...

Re: OFFICIAL: Kansas City Mayoral Race

At what point, when I say that Brooks doesn't stand for anything, other than being "against crime" and "for schools" (which everyone is) without laying out any plan for how to actually solve the problem can I prove that he does indeed stand for something.  I can't prove the lack...

Re: OFFICIAL: Kansas City Mayoral Race

Exactly my point.  There is a reason for all the housing permits in KCMO and a lot of it can be atributed to the city's agressive and creative ways to finance the northland's infrastructure, most of which is new within the past five years. Bingo.  Why the hell would you wanna change something that'...

I can't.  I have no idea what he stands for....and apparently neither do you.  That's the whole point. Maybe I just don't feel like typing out a lengthy opinion of the guy when you're just spouting off without actually stating any facts?  You ever been around a 5 year old that thinks they're smarte...

Re: OFFICIAL: Kansas City Mayoral Race

Please just tell me what Alvin Brooks stands for and what his vision is for Kansas City over the next 4 years.  He's never given it.  I would actually love to hear it. Why don't you tell me what he stands for instead of making smart mouthed comments about my opinion without backing up your pointy l...
