Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

Could containers be used for RM housing? Something taller than 3 stories. I’m not finding any examples online. Or maybe a half block of 2 story container row houses-directly south of 2nd & Delaware. https://kcrag.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=21019&p=612085&hilit=westside+container+housi...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

With the amount of surface lots in our downtown I'm OK with this temporary solution lasting for 20 years. I think it looks cool and will generate inexpensive retail options that will be wonderful for the River Market. My question is how many shipping container developments could you have before ever...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

I’ve heard 2nd and Delaware has plenty of extra parking. Great, so they should reach an agreement with the owner of the lot on the SE corner of 2nd & D to take on those leased spaces. A new building on that surface lot could turn the intersection into one the most beautiful in the city. Okay so...

Grasshopper, get ready for a pile of shipping containers on Delaware. Actually might look good.

Re: Four Light

I've always appreciated the murals Cordish painted on the blank walls ahead of 2 Light and 3 Light. Now that the back of the Main Street theater is more prominent, with views from Loews and 1400KC, I'm hoping Cordish is considering murals on these two walls ahead of 4 Light. https://i.imgur.com/bYNr...

I'm sorry. Were you unaware they have a pool? Not urban.    You guys are cheerleaders for this kind of crap and I'm not. I will say this development is at least 10 times better than Artistry, here the pool is not sitting in the middle of an open courtyard like an old fashioned...

Re: OFFICIAL - Artistry KC (19th and Oak)

If you want places to stop building private amenities downtown, start building better public amenities. Exactly my point. A great downtown is full of public amenities that are well used. Our few parks and public areas are shabby and unused. Nothing will change until the city knows there is a demand...

Wikipedia says:

Kansas City has a population density of 1,594 people per square mile.

Los Angeles has a population density of 8,495 people per square mile.
It’s dense suburbia, still suburbia. I’m sure Houston would be similar.

Re: OFFICIAL - Artistry KC (19th and Oak)

I wonder if the same complaints happened when all the brick colonade apartment buildings were going up all over the city? Even if the colonades were overbuilt they were still not suburban. My question is how many private pools can a downtown have and still be considered urban? I looked into the cos...

Re: OFFICIAL - Artistry KC (19th and Oak)

Are we in Overland Park or Lenexa City Center? Nope, this is an example of suburbanist urbanism right here in downtown KC. Developers will fill our downtown with this junk, because it's so much cheaper to build with wood than with concrete or steel. But like any suburban apartment complex, it will l...

I wonder what B&B will do with the north lobby bar? Never really successful as a bar, always thought the space could work as a bookstore.

Re: Sky and Cordish $253M project

If you build a house next to a freeway you should expect freeway noise. Is the city suppose to drop everything and build a 5 block park over a freeway just because expensive housing got built next to it? Is that how it works in the suburbs?

At least one subcontractor just got released to resume work.

Along with the Midland, the Twain (or whatever they end up calling it) will give Baltimore some much needed energy.

Re: OFFICIAL - Artistry KC (19th and Oak)

Is not some aspect of artistry fronting a sidewalk for 90% of the site. I believe many of the sidewalk facing units have ground floor entrances. Even the ground floor units facing the viaduct have entrances from the outside. For the buildings between Oak, Locust, 19th and 20th, the opening to the n...
