Re: 2011 Predictions

I haven't posted here in a while so here goes: 1. Kauffman PAC will get highly recognized in the Architecture community similar to the Block Building at the Nelson but not exceed it. 2. IKEA will choose Leawood as the location of the first store in the Metro. Lee's Summit would have been a second ch...

Re: OFFICIAL: Zona Rosa (tenants & phase II)

really? that seems like it wouldn't make any sense. i've hard they were thinking about dropping a Fork n Screen across the street at their Barrywoods complex. It actually makes perfect sense.  It would be cost effective: kitchen facility, theater that accommodate room for food, wait staff, paging f...

Re: Will Sprint Arena (as seen in render.) be a KC icon?

Once the Kaufman Center for Performing Arts is complete, it will be the most photographed building in the KC Metro. It will be the building everyone will remember seeing when visiting KC.  Sprint Center will be another mediocre designed arena.

Does the ticket price include food and drink or is the ticket just for entrance and food / drink is seperate per vender?

Re: OFFICIAL: Zona Rosa (tenants & phase II)

According to some employees at Studio Movie Grill, Corporate just came in and took everything over the weekend. They were literally in direct competition with Barrywoods AMC. Pretty much both of the theaters have to bid on the movies they will show. SMG had a very hard time getting the "better&...

Re: KC in TV and Movies

Disappointed that Peregrine lost, but didn't find it surprising. She was the most well established artist out of the final three and she does have art at the Whitney, which is in their permanent collection. She doesn't need to win the show to improve her art.  The $100,000 would have helped but mone...

Re: Eyesores & Architectural Blunders (ongoing thread)

explain... Speaking only of the architecture and design itself, nothing to do with the politics of PnL, and the necessity of an arena, which has no tenant, it is average at best .  Comparing it to other contemporary buildings in the KC area, it is boring. It is suppose to command iconic stature, bu...

Re: Seriously?

There's no reason that KC should only have one option except that people like you insist that KC has only one option.  Hahaha! I just told you I was all for mass transit and light rail. I'm not placing any barriers, hindering any process that would get it here KC.  In fact I tried to help get it he...

Re: Seriously?

It's not really the city that pays to expand the highway system.  And instead of continuously expanding the highways, we should be plunging some money into mass transit and taking cars off the highways instead of just giving them more lanes. Plunging money into a transit system? Hahahaha! What tran...

Re: Seriously?

Be glad that we don't have bad traffic like the cities mentioned.  If traffic volume is causing backups, stand stills, and actual "traffic" then the highway ISN'T WORKING PROPERLY!!!! Having highways gridlocked with cars is a bad thing!!!!! I'm glad the original link shows wide open areas ...

Re: Modern Archeology

Does anyone have old photographs of the Drive In theater on 40 Highway near I 70 and Van Brunt? I heard there was also a Bowling Alley there too? I remember when I was younger seeing the Drive In Theater screens. Just curious to see how it looked back then.

Re: UMKC Architecture program moving out of Epperson House

I wonder what they are going to do with Epperson House now? IMHO, they are going to make into administrative offices and meeting rooms.  Epperson House is an actual mansion where they converted the typical rooms into smaller or odd shaped classrooms.  The studio spaces on the 2nd floor had bathroom...

Re: UMKC Architecture program moving out of Epperson House

WOW!!!  Epperson House was such an awesome place to study and work.  Being a former student/Alumni of UMKC's Architecture department, I know first hand, the charm and appeal that Epperson House offered to students.  Having a haunted mansion for your studio (that's classroom for you non desig...

Re: P & L plans nationally televised mixed martial arts events

The crowd is another story.  Roid-raging, Affliction t-shirt wearing, energy drink drinking, guys is about the best way to describe it.  This is how its going to be in small venues, especially where large MMA event are not held, Kansas City, for example.  I have attend 3 MMA shows in town (all free...
