Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project
The large lot on the west side is also due to the shared public parking arrangement with Bar K and PortKC mentioned in the article. And yes, this plan will be solely residential. Hopefully a good, granular and active ground floor will be achieved in the final design. Expect to see a more detailed de...

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed
Drop scooters (RideKC) are still 15 cents/min. They need to do a better job getting the word out. And maybe put "15 cents/minute" bumper stickers in big letters on the standing part of scooters. Yes they may tatter but will get the word out. The bus digital panels promote Drop scooters bu...

Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project
1:6 parking ratio is super low (one spot to 6 units). It also doesn't match the drawing. It shows something like 390 spots 1:6 would be 85 parking spots and that would require not building 80% of what's shown At the very least could remove the internal parking lots and build more units. Only keep p...

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed
Bird raised their prices again. $3 min + tax. Yikes! This is ridiculous. Their price hikes are why I hardly ever ride anymore. They've price-increased themselves from an affordable, attractive form of alternative transportation to now being just an expensive, luxury toy. I used to use them as a che...

Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project
Riverfront has a chicken/egg problem. While streetcar extension is planned, suburban style developments with suburban style parking continue by suburban/warehouse minded developers. They need to plan these with future streetcar in mind. When the streetcar does run through, we'll all be thinking WTF...

“Winter Occupancy” -image- They have five months to make that. Winter ends March 18. It's not a given for sure, but if they can get the common basics done could absolutely have some units finished that early and open up move-in in stages I emailed their leasing line asking them if they meant this y...

Re: A Career in Development
I would highly recommend attending the monthly meetings of the local chapter of the Incremental Development Alliance, Small Developers of KC. Each month a speaker will come and give a presentation to the group. Plenty of great networking opportunities and it's a lot more KC/community oriented than o...

Here's a link to the online codes library for the City...not sure of what you're looking for is in the zoning and development code but it might be a good place to start.

Re: Next Mayor 2019
I can't figure out what he wants to accomplish yet. Every mayor wants a legacy. The only one in recent memory that hasn't is funk. It's so early that I'm not saying anything, but I find his public face a bit odd so far. I think he wants to fix crime and the schools then maybe come back to pro devel...

Re: Politics
Fortunately, the cycle of growth that we're in predated Troy so hopefully his departure won't slow things too much. It's his departure in combination with the departures of everyone else who is pro-development that is the problem. The mayor has significantly consolidated power already, plans to con...

IIRC a few years ago Hufft was supposed to a house on/near that site. TBH it's been a dream of mine since middle school to build a home on some these lots with Hufft as the architect...think of something like a Kansas City version of LA's Case Study House #22 (the Stahl House)... http://www.stua.co...

The building was sold to Copaken Brooks who said they will most likely demolish the building: https://cityscenekc.com/former-board-of-ed-building-sold-to-copaken-brooks-demolition-likely/ Supposedly nothing in the works. I'm calling it... ...worst case scenario, this ends up as a parking lot for de...

I support saving and renovating that building -- formerly called the IBM Building. It is one of three buildings in Kansas City to have had that name. The others being one at Crown Center, and another at 301 E. Armour. There used to be a Skelly gas station on that corner. https://kchistory.org/islan...

So I tried to use the RideKC Drop Scooters and apparently Drop is based out of Canada, which is where you send the payment. I found this out when I tried to add my (debit) card to the app and my bank sent me a fraud alert since it detected a "foreign purchase." Therefore, (because of my b...

Land is being cleared across 71 Highway. The area between 22nd St/Paseo/71-Hwy appears to be being leveled and prepared for development. Previous Beacon Hill master plans have included this area as a mix of townhomes and detached single family homes.
Is Beacon Hill finally making the jump across 71?

What's being built just east or possibly northeast of the Health Department (~24th & Troost)? I noticed a crane and what looked like new construction over there this morning, but I was running late for work so didn't have time to detour over to see it. I *think* that is the new hotel. You are c...

Why wasn’t this located on a lot between 11th and 12th Streets, in order to be in the middle of the 11th/12th couplet system?
IMO this would have made a lot more sense logistically.

About that building reno on the ne corner of Cleaver & Main. They took a boring modern building and made it more ugly. It now looks like a postwar housing project. Reminds me of Quality Hill towers. Agree, so bad. Right up there with the Country Club Bank rehab of the office building on Ward Pa...

Shots fired outside of the new Shake Shack almost an hour ago. No one was injured.
Police are still searching the area right now for the gunman. Lots of helicopters over head.
