Re: OFFICIAL - ARTerra (21st and Wyandotte)
i'm also told by a local architect that they won't touch condos now because of the liability issues. That's why you saw in Portland and Denver, buildings built and marketed as "luxury apartments" and then about ten years later they are converted to condos. After a certain amount of time (...

Re: OFFICIAL - ARTerra (21st and Wyandotte)
The financing rules for many mortgage companies limit condo's to 4 or 5 stories. Higher than that and yes it's more difficult to get a loan. That's one reason the condo's that were built in the area are not taller.

Re: OFFICIAL - ARTerra (21st and Wyandotte)
Seems like the condo market in the River Market area has been pretty good. At least that's my experience. Obviously that can change quickly one way or another, but having watched Conover Place and 5 Delaware buildings those listing have been selling fairly quickly at pretty good prices. I give a hug...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
Reminder: The streetcar expansion is in danger of moving forward if Question 1 passes. If for streetcar get out and vote NO on Q1 today. I think you meant to say "in danger of not moving forward if question 1 passes? I was voter #12 (no on 1, yes on 2) in my polling place (Don Bosco Center) at...

San Diego is a disaster on a pedestrian level Have you ever been to a non tourist area of San Diego. My experience in SD was a few months atCamp Pendleton (the USMC base) and the surrounding area. They are far and i mean FAR ahead of Kansas City in almost every way. Been to Camp Pendleton and it's ...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??
I do agree that we could and should do way better but i also understand that developers will cheap out and cut corners everywhere they can to make projects financially feasible. My take on what is happening here.. that was a mostly correct statement, but I took the liberty of correcting it a bit: &...

I won't name names, but FWIW, one of the inside candidates mentioned in the KCBJ article to replace Patterson actually does live downtown.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
fwiw - my River Market property value has gone up much more than the property tax increase. And even if it had not, the added mobility and functionality the streetcar gives me in my neighborhood is totally worth it to me as a resident and property owner. It would be really nice to see a future line ...

Re: Downtown Streetcar Opening Day
It is more often inaccurate. It is so rare for the "arriving" notification to even be close to right that it trains (no pun intended) us to ignore it. Not different on the bus system as others have noted. On an up note, I LOVE the streetcar. Can't wait for it to be extended to UMKC and bey...

Any thoughts on Kansas City being in the mix for this "Test City"? http://www.govtech.com/fs/Rumors-Mount-About-Alphabet-Building-a-City-to-Test-Emerging-Tech.html Specifically, this quote near the end of the article caught my eye: "Alternatively, Alphabet might simply be looking to f...

This article does a better job of explaining in my opinion. http://recode.net/2016/04/14/access-goo ... interview/

It will be good to have more residents in the neighborhood. However, I used to live in the suburbs and this Birt project wreaks of a suburban apartment complex. Quick & cheap construction, poor pedestrian design. And if it's like all of his past projects it is already leaking water every time it...

They've been in the suburbs (yes all of the Northland and East of town really are suburbs) for quite a long time and I know they have had some problems, but based on the experience of fellow employee's at the company where I work most of the contractors are very good. Definitely a HUGE undertaking a...

It wasn't explicitly stated in Google's Alphabet's announcement, but the 8-K filing makes it clear that Fiber will be moved out of the Google brand. Under the new operating structure, its main Google business will include search, ads, maps, apps, YouTube and Android and the related technical infras...
