Re: Denver

Actually, you get a great mountain view coming out of the Denver Basin on the eastern side of the metro (if it's not particularly smoggy that day).  I think the big reason why Denver hasn't sprawled to the east (in my opinion Denver HAS has sprawled considerably to the east) is because Aurora which...

Re: Denver

Yea, I agree.  Transit and bike trails are top notch there as well. That can't be said for KC. One interesting thing about Denver sprawl is that 95% of it tries to stay west when the path of least resistance and cheaper options exist if you go into the flatter and more remote areas to the east, alt...

Re: Denver

The original Elitch Gardens was a wonderful early 20th century amusement park.  The current version is just another generic amusement park.  Luckily, Lakeside Park still exists.  It was probably built around the same time. The Denver area has terrible sprawl.  With all that flat prairie available, ...

Re: Denver

At least sprawl in Denver is pretty well concentrated in one or two corridors.  Nearly the entire city is within five miles of 25.  I know sprawl is reaching in the higher parts of the high country and even getting real KCish down along 470 etc.  But it doesn't seem near as bad or spread out as KC ...

Re: Denver

I'm amazed the Four Seasons actually got underway.  That's huge.  Looking at Denver's urban growth always makes me a bit jealous.  Thanks for that Dan!  I'll will be out there this spring, Hopefully most of those towers will be topped out. BTW, I'm very surprised that Elitch Gardens has not been so...

Re: Denver

Well, when you do more than add a single 20 story building every decade, impressions can change ;) There are other proposals that could be on hold due to the economy, like a 45 story office tower.  But I'm really surprised so much is going up right now.  There's a 32 story condo tower you can't see...

Re: Denver

Here's a Denver pic I took the other day - sorry about the reflection, but it was taken from inside a building.  Anyway, you can see some of the new construction downtown.  The building on the far left is topped out, I believe.  The next crane to the right is going to be a 28 (I think) story office ...

Re: Imagine K-7 as a Freeway

I thought K-7 was already a "freeway".  I know there are a few places like Johnson Drive, Bonner Springs area etc, but I'm not sure what's worse.  A far flung suburban freeway like K-7 or a far flung suburban arterial/highway like M-7 on the MO side. It's all just sprawl, regardless of wh...

Re: Obama Mania!! Mega Concert @ the Lincoln Mem *PICS*

I'm mostly laughing at the libs who try to preach to us all, how we're supposed to "rally" behind the President.  After their disgraceful performance for W's inauguration, they have zero credibility on the topic. “Shouting slogans like ‘Hail to the Thief’ and ‘Selected, Not Elected,’ tens...

Re: Obama Mania!! Mega Concert @ the Lincoln Mem *PICS*

I think the main reason so many are gaga for Obama is because he's black.  Everyone wants a black friend, right? I support Obama myself, but I think it's kinda funny how many people think he's going to bring about some sort of great change.  He can only do so much.  People want to believe he'll fix...

Re: KCI Flight Schedule Adjustments

I recently flew to Austin and their new (1999?) terminal was great.  It probably had fewer gates than KCI, but the setup was convenient, plenty of stores and restaurants to keep me occupied while I waited for my flight, the car rental desks were near the baggage claim, and you just walked out of the...

Re: Plane spotting at KCI?

Without international flights, what's the biggest jets that fly into KCI?  Seems like most of the time, the pics would be of 737's (isn't that all SouthWest even flies) and MD-80s.   I guess some of the air freight companies may bring in an occasional 747 or larger Airbus model but the variety of p...

Re: California Prop. 8 gay marriage ban - national protesting - coming to KC

Can someone explain the rights that a gay person doesn't have that a married person does, besides the mere title of married?  What is the difference practically between a civil union and a marriage legally?  What are the 'extra rights' that are given to a married couple? I know one thing that sucke...

Re: Are you voting specifically for your candidate or against the other?

I'm surprised and pleased by responses from people who want to see Obama win but dislike one party having total control.   I too prefer a divided government.   Too me it's a bad thing if it gets to be too easy to pass your agenda.   There needs to be some degree of gridlock to ensure that what mana...

Re: Los Angeles weekend

You're not kidding!  There's a lot of life going on in LA and the new LA Live seems to be drawing pedestrians even as parts of it are still under construction.  But why does LA have that crazy law that makes all tall buildings have flat roofs so helicopters can land on them?  The architecture here ...

Re: Election 2008

Post Dispatch has MO down to a 1 point spread.  Lot of previously red states suddenly in "toss up" range: IN, FL, WV, NC.  Didn't Iowa go red the last two elections?  Right now Obama's up 10 points in Iowa.  He's also up over 5 points in Colorado on a poll average I'm looking at, some hav...

Obama's had a consistent 2-3 point lead here in Colorado since June.  We're getting bombarded with both candidate's commercials.

Re: Election 2008

Nice tax comparison.  Under Obama, I'd get a little over $1000 tax reduction.  Under McCain, less than $400 reduction.  Oh, but wait.  The commercial says Obama's going to raise my taxes and murder my babies!  He's an elitist with some stupid constitutional law degree from Harvard.  I guess I better...

public meetings are stupid. Just fix the damn thing. Says somebody that works in the field ;). I have attended, actually, I have created maps and concepts for many of these and I have attended many to take questions from the public. If you are lucky, you will get one good question out of a 100 and ...
