Re: Convention hotel proposal for P&L building (and surrounding block)

From what I have read funding will come from historic tax credits that have already been obtained with private investor money (Jury has an investor from San Antonio on board), plus if I am not mistaken there will be bonds backed by the hotel and tourism tax...

Re: Village West will be very influencial in KC's future

Great article.  I know that there are many on the board here who are really pissed that the unified government just didn't roll over and cede all economic growth to KCMO (how dare they look out for their own city) and/or didn't try to wedge the speedway into downtown KCK (like NFR and the Speedway w...

Re: Wizards could ditch Bannister site in favor of Wyandotte County

You can attack my intelligence, I don't care.  If you are going to take the intellectual road though at least live by your own rules.  If you want to have a non-groupthink, healthy discussion, go back and respond to my points in the post where I tried to find common ground. If you disagree, fine, I ...

Re: Wizards could ditch Bannister site in favor of Wyandotte County

You may be on to something...  It is interesting how they attacked the starbonds as a bad dev tool, yet the whole reason this was even possible is that the original dev produced more revenue than they even thought, allowing the bonds to be ahead of payback schedule.  Should we compare that to the th...

Re: Wizards could ditch Bannister site in favor of Wyandotte County

I undertand the anti-sprawl mix.  Hell, in most cases I am right there too.  In a perfect world if we could rebuild KC there would be a lot of things that could have been done different to improve things.  But that isn't reality and we should judge projects based on the real world, not an unrealisti...

Re: Wizards could ditch Bannister site in favor of Wyandotte County

It isn't as cut and dry as you make it.  For your argument to fly, the additional jobs would have had to provide the tax base to build the stadium, not the planned retail.  Well, by the time all 4000 jobs get there, the stadium will be at least 4 years old.  So explain how that would have been finan...

Re: Wizards could ditch Bannister site in favor of Wyandotte County

prove that choosing VW over bannister would make cerner lose any money. This is the whole issue.. comparing the Bannister plan to the wyco plan isn't accurate.  The Bannister plan died as unworkable before the wyco plan was even discussed.  Wyco didn't "steal" 4000 jobs from KCMO.  There ...

Re: Wizards could ditch Bannister site in favor of Wyandotte County

GRID, I was a bit harsh in my response so I apologize.  Unfortunately, the real solution to making this a true metro area is completely changing the government structure to better align the interests of someone in Overland Park with someone in Liberty instead of groupin OP with Salina just because i...

Re: Wizards could ditch Bannister site in favor of Wyandotte County

So full of fail... Please explain how this is going to turn KC into Omaha or OKC?  Because those two cities are really screwed over by their sprawling suburbs????!!! And I love how you talk about KC becoming a great metro region yet get pissed if any incentive or any development isnt in KCMO.  I wou...

Re: OFFICIAL: Proposed KCK Casino

After reading and participating in the "distance" debate, I have come to the conclusion that the vast majority are going to hold on to their bias no matter the facts and that it really doesn't matter anyway because the market will decide.  I think that in the noble pursuit of development p...

Re: OFFICIAL: Proposed KCK Casino

im2kull, Hate may have been strong and I wasn't meaning just you but a more general comment about many posters. I get the fact that this isn't infill like you would have downtown but it is in the sense that they are adding an attraction to an existing entertainment area as opposed to picking yet ano...

Re: OFFICIAL: Proposed KCK Casino

AND unlike any of the MO casinos this one is in an area with already existing hotels, bars, restaurants, etc. so it doesn't need to be self sufficient like the others... In fact one could say that the new one is actually "infill" whereas the MO casinos are spread out and isolated...

Re: OFFICIAL: Proposed KCK Casino

reading comprehension is a lost skill.... http://primebuzz.kcstar.com/?q=node/20651 The 28,000 space is for entertainment and dining.... restaunts and bars... not gaming space. Per Argosy's own website, they have 1762 slots and 40 table games that take up 62,000 sq. ft. The new casino will have 30% ...

Re: Wizards could ditch Bannister site in favor of Wyandotte County

Without making a judgement about whether or not states should "buy" jobs or not, I think that your math is somewhat simplistic on this deal.  There are more factors that come to play like: * Additional retail driven by having 4000 office workers in the area * Additional home sales by __% o...

Re: Wizards could ditch Bannister site in favor of Wyandotte County

It would sure be nice if just one of our regional companies stepped to the plate and decided to be a high profile part of Downtown. Using Cerner to fund a soccer stadium is really kind of stupid, even at banister Mall.  The stadium should be funded with other sources, but at least Bannister Mall ac...
