Re: Three Light
Developing surface lots should be higher priority. I mean, sure, but if this block got developed, I don't think they need to preserve the parking garage. The issue with the western building is it doesn’t really excel at either of its uses. The parking garage is too compact and the retail is too sho...

Re: Downtown Buildings with Activity
The guy claims the Westport building, which is less than 10 years old, had challenges “due to the building’s age”
Really tells me all I need to know about how honest he’s being.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
Give the food component, “best-in-class” claim, and the size of this place, I wonder if KC’s finally getting an Eataly?

Re: Crown Center: urban disaster, shining star, or in-between
That isn't an entrance, it's a blank wall with fire exit. That could never be anything because it's the backside of the Coterie Theater. Unless the theater is moved somewhere else and an entrance and something is constructed there. https://i.imgur.com/zk6GdHY.png Buddy I've used that entrance more ...

Re: Crown Center: urban disaster, shining star, or in-between
Unless there is more space that I'm not aware, isn't MTH Theater using all of that space? I’m talking about the old American Heartland Theater space above where halls is now. You’re talking about MTH on the same floor as halls, which used to be the cinema. Here’s an article from when Heartland clos...

Re: Crown Center: urban disaster, shining star, or in-between
Does Crown Center have space for an Urban Target? It could be one of the better downtown KC locations. Close proximity to large office spaces, hotels, and residential. Direct transit access with plentiful parking for people coming in from surrounding areas. I never knew that was an entrance. The so...

Re: Crown Center: urban disaster, shining star, or in-between
Converting all of the third floor over to halls was an extremely smart move on CC's part. That said, It'd be nice to see a marquee restaurant or experiential tenant take up the old 4th floor theater space. It's a shame that large of a space is just mothballed. Overall, It's the second floor that giv...

Nice catch! Should really help to fill that block out. Between this and the (attempted) redevelopment of the McWhirter lot, 9th is really starting to come together.

Same designer as our new terminal.. Goes to show that money is everything. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190712/a1a09037da789c22f122fe95f5a3cdfd.jpg FWIW, that rendering is of Studio Gang’s winning design. Not SOM’s. You can watch of what SOM submitted here: https://youtu.be/8wKulkLYA8A

Re: OFFICIAL - Reverb (1800 Walnut)
Then they can get concessions on that other project, and I’d hope the neighborhood would use this project against them. But this one is already permitted, bid, and past laying foundations. If the rendering set that was posted was truly from the 9th, then (in my experience) the neighborhood likely mi...

Re: OFFICIAL - Reverb (1800 Walnut)
Doesn't appear that they've incorporated the community's feedback about that Walnut facade yet. They're going to have to really overcompensate for that aluminum cladding. Did they agree to anything before they received their permit? Or did the neighborhood just voice displeasure? Also their reasoni...

Re: Hotel Overbuilding?
**pretends to be shocked** The Star has an editorial deriding anymore hotels receiving incentives in the core. https://www.kansascity.com/opinion/editorials/article229459769.html I'm sure they feel the same way about Lenexa or Lee's Summit subsidizing hotels... The most bizarre point is at the end w...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
That's a shame. That'll leave only one Cinemark in the whole metro. Can't help but wonder if they'll exit the market entirely. Also can't discount that the theaters got a disproportionate share of blame for the #TeenLoiteringProblem a few years ago. Given that the new owners seem to go for the easie...

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
As an architect you would know that if you’re value engineering close to $150 million at schematic and looking to cut more, the design isn’t going to magically get better. VE can be cut from both front of house and back of house. In a project as engineering-heavy as an airport, it's a good bet that...

I love the comment above about wait until they get into schematic design and we have a better handle on their glazing and furniture package. That’s hilarious. I love how condescending you are. That’s hilarious. I’m saying the renderings are shit (as I’ve said on plenty of projects) and details do m...

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
SOM is just now starting the schematic design phase, which is when the real design work starts for the most part. SD is when they'll start fleshing out finishes, furniture, glazing, food court layout, etc. Already proclaiming the new terminal a qualitative failure based off of those last renderings ...

There's a plan in compass for a patio to be built on Tom's Town parking lot (1701 Main St)
No plans or attachments to know how big the patio will be...Would be nice to get rid of another tiny lot.
