Re: Road Repairs from sales tax

http://www.kansascity.com/2012/09/12/3809080/kc-lists-streets-to-be-repaired.html The city has a list of more than 20 major roadway projects, in every geographic sector, scheduled for repairs. They include: • Bannister Road from Raytown Road to Norfleet Avenue. • Wornall Road from Gregory Boulevard...

Re: Make Grand Grand

It's not a bad design at all. The facade is interesting, they are using a variety of materials, and it steps down along with the topography on the 13th St side. It's not going to win any awards, but it seems to have been influenced by the aesthetic of the P&L, which isn't necessarily a bad thing...

Re: Does this apply to Kansas City? Any examples

i can understand saying that you're from NJ instead of NYC, because while part of the same metro, there is a very distinct difference that I don't think is present between KCMO and, say, mission or roeland park or whatever. if you meet someone from chesterfield MO in an airport, they will say they ...

Vulcan's Forge was the last thing I remember there. They moved out and the building came down shortly thereafter.

Re: Does this apply to Kansas City? Any examples

this mentality isn't limited to the far-flung burbs either, i've encountered BKS or waldo residents who are quite unfamiliar with midtown/downtown (to say nothing of burgeoning areas like Old NE or KCK). Maybe it just happens everywhere, people just like to stay close to home. I bet this is common ...

Re: Google picks KCK/KCMO for ultra fast fiber network

That is great news. My house is strange in that the main level of 3 stories is also the top story. Getting a second service to the basement would be an attractive option. With the TV units also acting as repeaters, my house will absolutely be doused in wifi. Also, the guy told me they would be comi...

Re: Google picks KCK/KCMO for ultra fast fiber network

I'll be interested in seeing what they can do - I live in a 3-story shirtwaist and Time Warner wouldn't install anything above the second floor (although I think it may have just been the fatty installer didn't want to climb that high). That's part laziness and part "who else are you going to ...

Re: Google picks KCK/KCMO for ultra fast fiber network

I also asked if I could pay the installation engineer, or whatever they are calling them, extra to snake a cable or a pull line to multiple rooms, but they were unsure if that would be a possibility. There probably isn't enough time for them to mess around with such additional demands. I'd rather n...

Re: Can KC learn from 'Plan El Paso'?

Are architects and planners in El Paso really not familiar with New Urbanism? It's not exactly a new concept. This is great for El Paso, but I'm not so sure that we are exactly "behind the times" compared with El Paso here. There are many architecture and planning firms in KC that are wel...

Re: Google picks KCK/KCMO for ultra fast fiber network

Ivanhoe/Boston Heights turned green in the last 5 minutes. Awesome. What conclusions is everyone willing to draw from the map? The east side will still have large areas without Fiber, but there is a rough line forming along Prospect, not Troost. Is this indicative of anything larger than the efforts...

I wonder if putting less emphasis on dredging for barges and channelization would make the river more or less friendly for boaters. In other words, is part of the current problem the fact that the river isn't managed to promote recreation? in a manner of speaking. the river is naturally wide, shall...

Re: downtown loop rebuild

a park would be nice. that's what they did in Boston with the old highway space. but the grade is weird through there. don't forget that they did a ton of cutting down of downtown in the 1800s. along Baltimore and in the river market is multiple stories lower than originally. nothing says we couldn...

big deal. 64130, the "murder factory" is starting to go orange. the eastside is having a rapid last minute change Wow. That map looks VERY different than it did an hour ago. Ivanhoe/Boston Heights and Manheim are orange. The Fiber truck will be at the Ivanhoe Community Center this Saturda...

a bunch more of the east side is really close. The Fiber truck was in Squier Park last night, at 36th and Tracy. Solid turnout, mostly neighborhood residents, but a few from Manheim and Center City. Someone said that a Manheim landlord was there to pick up brochures for the 25-30 units he was payin...

Atlanta, @Buffalo, @NO, SD, Baltimore, @Tampa is brutal. If they make it to the bye at 3-3, with most of their divisional schedule ahead, they have a chance.

Mike Lombardi was on the BS Report yesterday and said he liked the Chiefs quite a bit.
