Carousel was at 62nd & Troost; we used to eat there when we went to the Landing. My father died when I was 6, so my youth is a rememberance of getting rewarded with dining out for going along on her shopping jaunts. That ended when she married my stepfather in 1964. (The Shopping, not the eati...

Oh. Thanks. Do a lot of people participate? Are there any restrictions on locale? What are the typical prizes? How long does a hunt last? What time of year? Do people need vehicles to follow the clues?Sparty wrote: 98.9 The Rock does a similar scavenger hunt each year.

That news is nice. Here in Roanoke, VA, we endured a series of fierce rainstorms. My windshield wipers did not do a good enough job in the torrential rain as I made my way home from work. Then I sat in front of my townhouse, talking to my husband on my cell phone as he peered out of the kitchen wind...

Every time I hear "Puppy Love" by Donny Osman, it takes me back to when I was 12. In bed by 9p.m and sneaking my transistor radio under my pillow, listening to WHB Dial 71 ! And I remember sitting at the base of a 4-foot tall, vacuum-tubed, console radio. My dad, an electronics engineer f...

WHB Scavenger Hunt
Anybody remember the WHB scavenger hunt in the 1950s? (I assume there is still a WHB AM radio station.) All participants got in their cars--and there were a whoooole bunch--listened to clues on their radios, and then drove like maniacs to wherever the clues seemed to suggest. Can you imagine Kansas ...

In any event, it looks like the end is near for the former Pratt Whitney aircraft engine plant (aka Bendix) on Bannister, especially with the IRS leaving for downtown. A lot of KC history packed into that area. In the mid 40's, my mother used to drop me off at Bruce School around Brookside (it's w...

The next three pictures were taken at the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead. It's a great place to visit, even if you don't have kids with you. But it's fun to watch them. First one is urbanized goldfish. http://my.opera.com/Roanoker/homes/albums/58623/021ManyGoldfish2.jpg You can see many, pretty fl...

Striking: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/Shinatoo/Chicago/chi11.jpg Aquarium pictures were surprisingly colorful and clear. Both low light and and flash can be problematic in that environment. It was saved and is now used at Union Station - though they aparently lost the "enchanting scenery". I'm glad to hear the train was saved. I don't remember seeing it when I visited last October, but I'm not all that observant. The Benton mural was over the elevators at Harzfelds, not EBT...

The back Macy's entrance was so neat. We always parked in that parking lot at 13th and Main, so I almost never got to go in . We would always hit Jones, Macy's, Harzfeld's, and Emery, Bird Thayer and get to eat at one of the 3 that had a cafeteria. I remember Emer Bird having the best+ the cool Tho...
